POSITION TITLE:                 Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker (MHRW) – Unity House

Position Summary:  Provide positive direction for residents served by the Center in the Intensive Residential Treatment Facility.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

 

MHRW working overnights Only:

Has a high school diploma or equivalent

 

MHRW Any shift:

In addition to the requirement above, check one of the following below:

 

Fluent in the non-English language or competent in the culture of the ethnic group to which at least 20 percent of the mental health rehabilitation worker's clients belong; Has an associates of arts degree; or Has at least two years of full-time postsecondary education or a total of 15 semester hours or 23 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields; or Is a registered nurse; or Within the previous ten years has one of the following:

• Three years of personal life experience with serious mental illness; or

• Three years of life experience as a primary caregiver to an adult with a serious mental illness, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, or developmental disability; or

• 2,000 hours of work experience in the delivery of mental health services to adults.

 

 

Good verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Certified in First Aid/CPR or ability to be certified.  Ability to pass DHS Background Study. Ability to pass annual Mantoux.

 

Supervision Requirements:

 

Prior to having direct contact with residents, staff must: Complete first section of orientation checklist, and Have a background study submitted to the department. Prior to working independently, staff must: Complete the third section of orientation checklist, Receive background study clearance from the department, and Complete 32 hours of on-the-job training/shadowing. Direct observation by a MHPrac or MHP for no less than: 6 hours for every 40 hours worked during the first 160 hours worked, and 6 hours for every 6 months of employment after the first 160 hours worked until MHPrac status achieved. Treatment team meeting participation for every calendar week worked. Complete a minimum of 24 training hours annually. Clinical supervision ongoing.

 

Essential Functions:          

 

Interpret and enforce any and all Center policies and procedures as they pertain to the residential treatment program. Promote positive communication and working relationships with all team members.          Attend weekly clinical supervision, staff meetings, and in-services.  Be available to work evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends, as needed.             Ensure that scheduled menu is followed and that the necessary grocery items are on hand. Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks in the setting as outlined on the cleaning and maintenance schedule. Assist treatment director and clinical supervisor to provide quality programming that will provide a supportive and therapeutic environment and assure that residents’ physical, emotional, and medical needs are being met by:                                  Developing and implementing treatment plans identified by the resident’s desires, by the social worker, by the Strengths & Needs Assessment and by other members of the resident’s treatment team. Ensuring that the treatment plans are reviewed weekly with the residents. Assuring accurate documentation and filing according to agency and program policies.     Adhering to resident’s rights policies and incorporate resident’s rights into the daily routine. Assisting individuals in arranging necessary appointments and providing transportation when needed for appointments, shopping, etc. Advocating for residents to the staff, social workers, therapists, vocational advisors, family members and other team members, making sure that residents have an opportunity to share their concerns. Ensuring that all reports: quarterlies, evaluations and discharge summaries are completed in a timely manner. Assisting the registered nurse in reviewing medical and medication needs with staff, psychiatrist and other physicians. Participating actively in leisure/group activities as scheduled and ad hoc. Assisting with cooking meals and serving. Passing medications as required. Accessing on-call supervisor as noted and as necessary. Other areas as determined by the team. Maintain a working rapport with referring agencies, parents/relatives/legal guardians, if applicable, and other programs involved in the resident’s life. Present group materials to residents as scheduled.

 

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to travel to all SWMHC facilities in the catchment area, ambulate within and between departments; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.  Must be able to sweep, mop, shovel, and lift up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

REQUIRED COMMUNICATION/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:

 

Must possess the required level of skills and abilities to read, write, speak, and apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. Must be able to perform basic operations on a computer within the Windows operating system. This position requires problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to multi-task.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

 

May be exposed to communicable diseases when working in a health care environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
