Job Overview:

The Mental Health Screener provides care in the acute care setting within the scope of practice defined by the Screening Law and other regulatory standards. Assures safety in practice by maintaining a realization of their own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge by communicating with and utilizing resource persons/programs available. The Mental Health Screener individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient s needs. Works in harmony with other staff members of interdisciplinary team, assisting the Patient Care Manager and others as needed, to achieve best service possible to patients. Responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate support personnel and for consistently setting and evaluating priorities. As a key member of a High Reliability Organization, remain responsible for reporting identified clinical and non-clinical safety issues and stopping the line as necessary to ensure the safety of the patients, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications:

Required:

MA/MS degree in psych or behavioral health related field, plus three years of prior experience in a psychiatric setting, one of which is in crisis setting. Must possess the ability to work in stressful situations.Must possess and maintain a valid N.J. Driver s License.

Preferred:

It is preferred that individuals hired be eligible to obtain their Temporary Screening Certification Number upon hire and must obtain their permanent number with one (1) year.

Scheduling Requirements:

12:00 am 8:00 amIncluding some Holidays and two weekend shifts/monthPer Diem

Answers phones, i.e., hotline, business line, in a professional and timely mannerDemonstrates ability to communicate effectively with other members of the health care team (internal and external)Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with the Screening RN in Charge of Shift as pertains to the patient s treatment plan and dispositionDemonstrates ability to conduct a thorough ongoing assessment according to departmental guidelinesDemonstrates ability to effectively provide patient care in a timely mannerDemonstrates professional behavior according to hospital codes in section Conduct for Patients/Customers in the Employee Handbook.Describes Screening process and updates progress of evaluation/interventions to patient/familyDocumentation in Presenting Illness indicates concept of Why patient is here today Documentation indicates attempts made to provide clinical information and obtain insurance pre-certificationDocumentation indicates collaboration with patient and/or family in the development of patient care planning and dischargeDocumentation indicates gathering of relevant collateral informationDocumentation indicates that patient understands the concept of voluntary admissionDocumentation indicates that patient/family were provided with information based on Discharge PlanDocumentation indicates thorough completion of request for off-site Screening evaluationDocumentation indicates thorough completion of requests to do Community OutreachDocumentation reflects clinical decision of Outreach outcome based on criteria as per Screening LawEvaluates effects of interventions throughout the patients stay and updates the plan of care as per hospital policy.Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports in a timely manner (prior to end of shift)Provides hotline information/referral/interventions that conforms to Screening guidelinesScreening Assessment indicates determination of most appropriate services/ disposition according to patient s clinical needs (consideration of least restrictive alternatives)Screening Document contains clear description of dangerousness due to mental illness as per Screening Law and guidelines from DMHAS Screener Certification trainingScreening Document reflects clear description of patient s mental illness as per Screening Law and guidelines from DMHAS Certification training.

$ 33.12 Hourly Rate
