The Mental Health Specialist/Safety position is within UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders (CADD) inpatient unit. The CADD Inpatient Program follows a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions. 

Responsibilities:

Policies and Standards

Follow policies, procedures, and standards of care. Align with Behavioral Health Center philosophy.

Patient Care

Address patient dysfunction and its effects. Develop and implement care plans. Assess patient needs as part of the Treatment Team.

Safety and Crisis Management

Manage physical restraints and ensure safety. Lead debriefing sessions post-crisis. Conduct safety rounds.

Documentation and Communication

Record patient encounters. Coordinate with ambulance personnel and complete documentation. Oversee visiting hours and maintain a calm environment.

Activities and Training

Organize educational, social, and recreational activities. Provide safety training and investigate incidents and report findings.
