Mental Health Specialist/Safety - Neighborhood Living Program (Residential)
NLP has nearly 30 years of experience serving the unsheltered BH population of Allegheny County. This is a unique opportunity to work as a Safety Specialist in a residential setting, overnight shifts only, providing safety support on site as part of a multidisciplinary team to clients living in their own Single Room Occupancy units on the 4 th floor of the newly renovated Second Avenue Commons building. The hire for this position will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of a therapeutic environment for patients experiencing emotional disturbance. Also assists with the specialized patient care needs of each individual patient using principles of adult development and knowledge of psychopathology. **Lease parking provided for this position** , **700 feet away from work site!** **Responsibilities:** **Patient Care** + Follow policies, procedures, and standards of care. + Build supportive relationships with patients. + Align with Behavioral Health Center philosophy. + Recognize patient dysfunction impacts. + Develop and implement patient care plans. + Assist with daily personal hygiene tasks. + Assess social and emotional needs as a team member. + Understand patients within their family context. + Plan and engage in educational and recreational activities. **Safety and Security** + Conduct safety rounds and monitor the environment. + Assist in physical restraints and maintain safety. + Lead debriefing sessions post-crisis. + Monitor and document patient behavior changes. + Engage patients in safety activities. + Assist with Mental Health Hearings and admissions. + Ensure safe visiting hours and environment. + Report unsafe conditions and respond to emergencies. + Provide safety training and investigate incidents. + Associate degree with 2 years work experience within MH/MR service. **OR** + Enrolled in Bachelor degree program in associated field of study with 2 years of experience + Related work experience in hospital or community setting with psychiatric patients. **OR** + Bachelor’s degree in Human Services field. + May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. + No contact with medications is allowed. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC) + Driver's License + Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal + Act 33 with renewal + Act 34 with renewal + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal + OAPSA with renewal **_UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran_**
