Summary:
Provides direct patient care to psychiatric patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs a leadership role amongst other Mental Health Technicians through communication, education and mentoring of team members. Ensures that the team is consistently monitoring and observing patients to ensure safety and well-being. Promotes effective communication and therapeutic relationships with patients and team members. Maintains and ensures appropriate boundaries with patients and team at all times. Promotes coordination of the unit by assisting with patient needs during entire length of stay in collaboration with the treatment team. Demonstrates flexibility in assignments to meet the needs of the facility.
Required Certification: Basic Life Support from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.
Minimum Qualifications: You may qualify for the position through one of the following ways:
· 6 months acute care experience as a patient caregiver
· 1-year Skilled Nursing Facility experience as a patient caregiver
· Completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an RN or LPN program
· Completion of a Baycare approved Nurse Assistant/PCT program--if the program did not include hands-on patient care experience outside of a lab setting, must attend the three-day Baycare PCT Boot Camp in Clearwater
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; may also qualify with a Certificate of Completion. Preferred: Associates in psychology.
