Mental Health Worker II

The Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a compassionate, talented Mental Health Worker to become a part of a dynamic team.

The selected candidate provides programmatic direct care services to clients, assists in the implementation of rehabilitative behavior and recreational programs, performs client related housekeeping duties, attends client review meetings, accompanies clients to various appointments, provides leisure activities to clients.The incumbent will serve as a role model for Mental Health Worker I (MHW I).

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

Completes MHW admission information on clients by interviewing, orienting, and documenting the information on the appropriate forms and communicating priorities to the appropriate people in order that care can be delivered.Contributes to effective interpersonal and community relations to ensure the quality of client’s care and topromote the image of SCFMHC.Ensures assigned coverage and other duties are completed on a daily schedule according to hospital policy confirming a safe and therapeutic environment is maintained.Intervenes in managing crisis situations by utilizing hospital policies and procedures to promote the leastrestrictive alternative to ensure optimal client/staff safety.Maintains commitment to work related growth and competency through ongoing staff developmentprograms that promote role development.Preserves a safe, clean, and comfortable environment, which complies with accrediting and licensing regulations to protect the client’s privacy and dignity.

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques utilized in the care, development, and treatment of mentally ill individuals.Ability to follow written and oral instructions.Ability to gather information through observing and questioning individuals.Capacity to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress.Ability to work in a team setting and in group situations.Capacity to lift and carry heavy objects or persons.Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in a mental health facility, including evacuation of patients/clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness, substance abuse and/or who have experienced homelessness.Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week, evening shift (245a-11p) on unit 8. Day Off Week A Sunday and Friday, Week B Sunday and Friday Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime.
