Metal Forming Machine Operator
Summary This position is located at US Mint,Manufacturing Directorate - West Point - Production Division, Numismatics Section and is responsible for a variety of processes used in the making of circulated / uncirculated precious metal, gold, silver, palladium, and platinum, and other metals, coins and medals (domestic or foreign). Responsibilities As a Metal Forming Machine Operator, you will: Be responsible for applying specialized skills, methods, procedures, and techniques to monitor and operate complex coin presses, rolling mills to press scrap metal and defective coins into sheet metal, upsetting mills, and other production and support machinery associated with the coin manufacturing industry. Use automated data collection systems and any computerized automated systems associated with presses and other coin production machinery. Operate and maintain machines to include startup, adjustment, stopping and other processes on burnishing, tumbling, rinsing and drying equipment and ensures optimal system operations. Receive, issue, ship, and/or store commodities, i.e., gold, silver, platinum, palladium bullion bars, blanks, packaging materials, etc. Receive, issue, record, and safeguard coinage dies and collars and prepare and maintain records, inventories and related statistical data. Requirements Conditions of Employment All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis, 5 days a week. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis. May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. Physical Requirements: Incumbents of this position frequently handle objects weighing up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and occasionally objects weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds); however, hoists, lifts, and workers are available to assist in moving heavier items. They are required to lift, reach, push, pull, bend, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Employees sometimes work in cramped positions over and under machinery when troubleshooting machine issues.
