Position Description:
We are seeking a skilled Process Metallurgist to join our team at the Goldstrike Autoclave. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the metallurgical processes at our gold plant, which treats refractory gold ore through pressure oxidation in autoclaves followed by Carbon-In-Leach (CIL) processing. This role requires a solid understanding of refractory gold treatment, pressure oxidation, and CIL processes, along with problem-solving and analytical skills.
Responsibilities:
Process Optimization:
Assist in developing strategies to optimize the pressure oxidation and CIL processes. Monitor and analyze process performance to identify improvement opportunities. Support metallurgical testing and interpret results to improve recovery rates and plant efficiency.Technical Leadership:
Provide technical assistance to the operations team. Participate in troubleshooting process-related issues to minimize downtime and enhance efficiency. Assist in mentoring and training plant operators.Pressure Oxidation Operations:
Assist in managing the pressure oxidation operations, ensuring the autoclaves operate within optimal parameters. Help develop and modify standard operating procedures (SOPs) for pressure oxidation. Collaborate with the mill operations team to ensure the autoclave feed is prepared and conditioned for optimal oxidation.Theory of Pressure Oxidation:
Apply knowledge of pressure oxidation, including the chemical reactions involved in decomposing refractory sulfide minerals. Gain an understanding of the thermodynamics and kinetics of sulfide oxidation and their impact on the process efficiency.Project Participation:
Support metallurgical projects, ensuring they are executed effectively and within budget. Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to support project objectives.Data Analysis and Reporting:
Assist in analyzing metallurgical data and preparing technical reports. Help develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for process performance.Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
Support compliance with safety and environmental regulations within the metallurgical team. Contribute to promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in metallurgical process development and optimization. Familiarity with refractory gold treatment processes, particularly pressure oxidation (POX) and CIL. Experience with pressure oxidation operations, including basic troubleshooting and support.Technical Skills:
Understanding of pressure oxidation and CIL processes.
Competency in metallurgical testing and process modeling software.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Soft Skills:
Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to a dynamic environment. What We Can Offer You

About Nevada Gold Mines
Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.
The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018. Three of these assets are Tier One gold mines: Barrick’s Cortez; the combination of Barrick’s Goldstrike and Newmont Goldcorp’s Carlin; and the combination of Barrick’s Turquoise Ridge and Newmont Goldcorp’s Twin Creeks. In addition, Barrick’s Goldrush-Fourmile project has the potential to become the fourth Tier One asset in this portfolio. The new JV is expected to generate around $5 billion in cost savings over the next five years. Nevada Gold Mines is operated by Barrick.
Thank you for your application, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
