Meteorologist Senior
**Job Title:** Meteorologist, Sr. **Skill Code:** NE **Amentum Job Code:** TRP-WEA40:OT-N **FLSA Status:** Exempt **Assigned Work Site:** South Pole Station, Antarctica **Reports to:** Meteorological Operations Manager **Department:** Operations **Employment Type:** Seasonal Contract **Summary:** Supports the National Science Foundation managed United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The Meteorologist Senior will perform tasking under the supervision of the Meteorological Operations Manager. **Position Responsibilities (not all inclusive):** + Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. + Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures. + Supports aircraft operations, research groups and the surface, upper air and climatological programs. + Prepares, launches and monitors upper air sounding equipment and evaluates, encodes, decodes and transmits the acquired data to organizations worldwide in a timely manner. + Monitors specific meteorological parameters for research groups and interacts with diverse agencies, groups, individuals, and departments. + Prepares work schedules and evaluates the work performance of other meteorologists in order to provide 24 hour, 7 days per week operations in support of USAP activities. + Observes, records and encodes surface weather in METAR and synoptic WMO coded format on an hourly basis during the austral summer and on a six hourly basis during the winter. + Maintains, quality controls and updates office records, manuals, inventory supplies, climatology and meteorological products to ensure National Weather Service (NWS) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) compliance. + Coordinates the completion of preventive maintenance schedules with NIWC, repairs and the replacement of meteorological systems. + Surge mission and work hours when required for emergency Pole flight operations during winter season. + Maintains inventory controls and logs for the department. + Conducts all operations in accordance with the ASC standard operating procedures. + As required, actively participates in other general station operations including assistance in keeping buildings clean, re-supply, and inventorying of station supplies, galley support, and cargo handling. + Interacts with National Science Foundation, NIWC, military and other agency officials. + Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy + Maintain close contact with Antarctic Meteorological Research and Data Center (AMRDC) at the University of Wisconsin. + Works with helium bottles + Performs other duties as required. **Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:** + High School diploma or GED + Bachelor of Science degree required.  Military Meteorology or equivalent experience accepted in lieu of a degree. + One year’ supervisory experience is required. **Preferred:** + Minimum two years training/experience as a meteorologist, meteorologist technician or weather observer in the operation of upper air sounding equipment and making meteorological observations is preferred. + Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science or natural science subject. + Previous experience with remote Polar Logistics operations **Physical and/or Other Requirements** : + Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods + Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica + Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer + Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF + Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position. + Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position. + Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives. + Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States + Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
