Job Description

Calibration, measurement and technical expert in Metrology and Calibration Laboratory disciplines. Establish measurement processes based on interpretation of customer requirements and recognized industry practices. Provide measurement support and leadership to ensure industry practices and metrology principles are taken into consideration.

Calibration Support for Metrology and Calibration LaboratoryCalibrates measurement and test equipment (M&TE) up to 50 percent of time, supporting calibrations throughout the laboratory where needed.Fundamental calibration knowledge in all laboratory disciplines.Provides technical oversight and support of daily calibration activities.Identifies opportunities for improvement in daily calibrations and procedures, making required changes where needed.Creates, maintains, and oversees Process Measurement Assurance Program (PMAP).Creates, maintains, and/or oversees measurement uncertainty budgets and analysis.Creates, maintains, validates, or approves calibration report templates.Calibration Method/Procedure Development and ValidationLead in the development, validation, and implementation of new calibration processes for the laboratory.Evaluates opportunities for new calibration products or processes.Assists in the selection of calibration equipment with consideration of specifications and measurement uncertainties.Designs, constructs, or coordinates the construction of special calibration equipment, fixtures and processes.Ensures and maintains measurement traceability.Develops measurement uncertainty budget and analysis for calibration and measurement disciplines.Participate in various stages of product development to ensure credibility of proposed product specifications.  Assist in writing product calibration procedures and test reports to assure consistent product performance.Develop and validate calibration methods based on principles of measurement science and industry standards.Performs technical analysis of measurements results based on the requirements for uncertainty, accuracy, precision, and traceability.Recommends changes to existing calibration products or processes when needed and is part of the solution.Assists in defining training requirements for new calibration processes and executing training for personnel, as required.QMS and Accreditation SupportLeads or assists in the maintenance or expansion of the MTS calibration Quality Management System (QMS), scope of accreditation (and associated disciplines), and related ISO/IEC 17025 accreditations worldwide.Supports QMS and accreditation activities for worldwide business units.Assists in meeting accreditation requirements, tailored to country-specific requirements.Expands scope of accreditation to support new calibration services, as needed.Assists with audit-related activities related to calibration and accreditation.Keeps abreast of accreditation requirements.Perform measurement systems analysis by identifying sources of measurement error contributing to total measurement uncertainty to determine the level of risk in measurement processes.  Exhibit the ability to quantify total process measurement uncertainties, developing and maintaining uncertainty budgets and analysis.Actively participates in proficiency testing within the organization to determine measurement credibility and confidence between personnel. Also, provides guidance in interlaboratory comparisons with other corporations and test facilities. The results of this testing form the basis for validating and improving calibration techniques and methods.Knowledge BaseMaintains expertise with respect to the science of measurement.Continuously develops and utilizes metrology knowledge and experience to support the Service market calibration enterprise.Keeps abreast of measurement technology and industry standard practices applicable to the business calibration and testing needs.Utilizes knowledge of national and international procedures and means to maintain measurement traceability conformance.Assists with measurement and test equipment (M&TE) and/or process problems, whether the problems concern measurement techniques, instrument operation, or instrument deficiency.Stays current with changes in high accuracy measurement instrumentation and processes, recommend and help justify capital expenditure purchases, implement methods and produce results.Technical SupportServe as a technical resource to other MTS personnel.Supports engineering and laboratory personnel in the design, manufacture, evaluation, and calibration of measurement standards, M&TE and test systems to ensure selection of approved instrumentation. Work closely with and provide support to calibration personnel to ensure high quality calibrations and measurements.Assumes a technical support role when dealing with quality issues pertaining to high accuracy measurement and testing techniques, especially when written and demonstrated evidence of traceability and measurement credibility is required.Aid all departments when measurement and calibration issues arise. Provides training for personnel regarding calibration and measurements.  This includes calibration principles based on industry practices such as ASTM and ISO requirements. Provide technical support to engineering, sales and service pertaining to compliance with national and international regulations, standards and procedures applicable to MTS business. Provide guidance to establish MTS procedures and processes. Advises on methods of resolving measurement deficiencies and exchanges information with other metrology personnel through participation in government and industrial standardization committees and professional societies.Provides technical leadership of laboratory calibration software, including, but not limited to, MET/TEAM, MET/CAL, and ACSProvides leadership in the implementation and sustainment of 5S lean practices, where applicable.CommunicationPromote MTS in a favorable competitive position by highlighting our expertise in the areas of measurement integrity and credibility. Generate enthusiasm on projects.Makes recommendations without being asked.Relates ideas to others in the organization and utilizes the technical expertise of others as needed. Maintains an open mind to understand the needs of others and share points even during disagreements.Effective email structure and etiquette  Performs other duties or special projects as assigned

QualificationsAAS or technical degree or relative Military education, or equivalent technical program10 years’ calibration and metrology experienceBroad exposure to multiple measurement technologies including physical, electrical, and dimensional.Well versed in ISO/IEC 17025 along with other recognized industry calibration practices, including relevant ASTM and or ISO Standards.Working knowledge of PC's in a windows environment with experience in Word, Excel, and Power Point.Displays competence in all phases of measurement traceability and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of metrology in a laboratory and or on-site environment.Ability to comprehend and apply oral and written communication.Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationship with all levels of employees.
