Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to join our quality engineering team. As part of this team, you will oversee the quality aspects of metrology and dimensional management.

 

This Metrology / Dimensional Quality Engineering role will have responsibility over the development and selection of inspection systems at Joby Aviation, as well as ensuring the manufacturability of new products, providing dimensional analysis support for manufacturing improvements, and ensuring designs have a high standard of dimensional quality. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metrology, inspection system development, dimensional management, dimensional analysis, and/or dimensional controls. This role will involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams and internal stakeholders.

This role will be based in Marina, CA.

Responsibilities Lead in the development of inspection systems, metrological processes/procedures and dimensional quality objectives.Represent Quality Engineering/Metrology/Dimensional Management in product development and engineering design review process from initial concept through engineering release.Evaluate the model objectives and provide feedback on Datum and GD&T appropriateness.Continuous involvement in tooling, equipment, inspection and design reviews to ensure that the Metrology/Dimensional Management objectives are maintained to minimize redesign through production-level drawing/model releases.Ensure design variation is managed through the engineering design processes, ensuring parts fit during assembly and ensuring part/assembly fixtures are adequate for the application.Perform dimensional analysis on assemblies using statistical tolerance stacks and 3-D tolerance analysis software to ensure design functionality and design variation are considered to ensure vehicle end item operational requirements are met.Perform analyses on variation of parts/assemblies in holding/assembly fixtures and providing feedback to tooling/manufacturing for continued improvement.Advise on the development of the Geometric Dimensioning and tolerancing callouts of the models and drawings to ensure compliance with ASME Y14.5M-2009.Ability to manage calibration programs and systems.Support Quality Engineering and Manufacturing to develop standards and procedures for new metrological processes/systems.Work with manufacturing during the development of the dimensional controls to ensure the objectives of engineering functionality and manufacturing requirements are balanced. Required Bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related fieldMinimum 8 years experience in a Metrology, Dimensional Management or Dimensional Quality roleExperience with inspection system developmentStrong mechanical skills or backgroundHigh level of proficiency in interpretation and application of ASME Y 14.5M-2009.Strong interpersonal and communication skillsWorking knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly practices. Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $117,000 - $189,000/year. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
