Job Description

About the Role:

As a memeber of the Service Engineering organization, the Metrology Specialist is responsible for but not limited to executing annual calibration and preventative maintenance of ancillary lab equipment. The Metrology Specialist must also be sensitive to the demanding regulatory compliance requirements vital to the operation of a pharmaceutical testing laboratory. The Metrology Specialist will support the sustainability function of our Metrology Group, which includes but is not limited to annual calibrations and preventative maintenances of ancillary equipment, standards inventory management, and adhering to Good Documentation Practice. The Metrology Specialist has the ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform calibrations and preventative maintenance to ensure that instruments meet Guardant Health’s quality system requirementsProficient in the use of CMMS Computerized Maintenance Management System/calibration software (data entry, records maintenance, report generation, and other related required documentation)Communicate with labs to coordinate calibration/preventative maintenance eventsEvaluate equipment for fitness of use and verification of performance within specified parameters per established calibration proceduresEnsure proper documentation following GDPEffectively communicate with third party service providersWork with leadership to organize and execute equipment moves and recalibrations as neededEnsure necessary supplies and equipment are ready and availableProvide input for creating calibration and verification methods, creating/revising SOPs and Work InstructionsPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QualificationsAssociate’s degree (AA/AS) in refrigeration, scientific, mechanical or related field of study with 1-2 years of calibration and technical service experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experienceExcellent working experience with a CMMS; working knowledge of Qualer and Viewpoint is a plusPerform testing and adjustments using SOPS/WIs or technical experience when no procedure is availableExperience authoring and executing calibrations, preventative maintenance, repair work if applicable, and other service-related work and documentationFamiliar with a variety of hand tools, electric meters, calibration standards to perform essential day-to-day dutiesAdaptability to fast pace changing environmentBasic troubleshooting skills relating to ancillary equipmentExperience applying 5S, Lean Manufacturing methodologiesAbility to effectively communicate and collaborate in-person or via email with internal and external customers from diverse scientific, engineering, operational, and regulatory disciplinesDemonstrated independent and self-motivated professional with the capability to handle several tasks with minimal supervisionAbility to take part in an on-call rotation with afterhours/weekend response as neededWillingness to travel up to 30% as needed

Physical Requirements

Frequently exert up to 20-50 pounds of force to push or lift equipment

Standing/sitting/walking/crawling regularly

Additional Information

For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the hourly range for this full-time position is $33 to $44.66. The range does not include benefits and, if applicable, overtime, bonus, commission, or equity.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
