Metrology Specialist

As our System & Metrology Technician, you will coordinate routine maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment at Hologic's Manchester Facility. Working within the Metrology division of the Engineering department, you will provide metrology support for all equipment systems, performing routine maintenance and calibration tasks, troubleshooting and rectifying equipment breakdowns, and planning and scheduling service and calibration engineering visits from external vendors and suppliers. You will be responsible for sharing work load throughout the month between colleagues, along with supporting there training and on going development. 

What To Expect:

Carry out routine maintenance and calibration tasks on schedule to ensure that laboratory equipment remains in service and valid for use (i.e. Pipettes, Balances, Incubators etc.) Manage workload for the month with colleagues.  Support with internal/external audits in relation to calibrations and systems. Coordinate with external vendors to book service and calibration engineering visits ahead of schedule. Coordinate maintenance and calibration documentation compliance requirements with vendors. Maintain and upkeep the equipment assets in the electronic data management system with all maintenance and calibration events. Work with other departments and vendors to create and update calibration and maintenance guidelines and operating procedures. Investigate technical requirements and initiate/upgrade preventive maintenance and calibration process specifications. Interface with Purchasing for purchase order and vendor follow up. Perform non-standard and new equipment calibrations and/or equipment verifications. Support with the research and selection of new equipment as related to engineering and calibration requirements. Training of calibration technicians in the operation of new calibration procedures. Initiate and manage equipment change controls for non-routine maintenance and/or equipment modifications. Initiate and manage Non-Conformance investigations, take ownership of Corrective Actions arising from non-conforming equipment/ process issues along with supporting colleagues. Support the department for Equipment Validation initiatives with regards to Metrology input. Maintain and support QMS system working with other departments

What We Expect:

A' Level, BTEC or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline. Experience working in a cGMP environment to ISO or FDA regulatory standards is desirable. Experience in calibration and/or maintenance support for a pharmaceutical, medical device, or biotech manufacturing company, or equivalent, with demonstrated skills in writing complex calibration SOPs and technical operating procedures. Good planning skills to produce project timelines. Understanding of technical metrology requirements, assisting in the development of calibration specifications, coordinating and monitoring new equipment and/or repairs. Proficient in Windows based MS Word, MS Excel and Power Point. Must have working knowledge of database software and systems. Ability to handle multiple task functions, shift priorities to meet deadlines and use logical problem solving skills. Ability to positively interact with colleagues and all levels of personnel. Experience in the use of liquid handling equipment including automated liquid filling/capping and labelling systems and liquid monitoring systems would be advantageous. Excellent verbal and communication skills.
