Mexico Markets Reporter

Bloomberg News is looking for a reporter to cover emerging markets out of Mexico City. The successful candidate will be a dogged journalist with strong source building skills who is passionate about breaking news and writing market-moving stories and smart analysis that connects the dots for our audience. Our reporters are team players who can tell stories on multiple platforms, from the real-time newswire to TV and long-form magazine pieces.
The reporter will be responsible for covering the day-to-day of Mexico markets, including the currency, corporate and sovereign dollar bonds and stocks, as well as pitching in regularly on broader coverage of global emerging markets. The role requires approaching local markets and investment climate not only from a domestic perspective, but also as part of the broader asset class and region.
In addition to the daily coverage, they'll generate scoops on everything from stock offerings to debt sales and people movers in Mexico's brokerages. They'll be expected to be a self-starter with excellent communication skills who can coordinate with team mates spread across the region, as well as work across beats, helping out in local coverage outside of markets when needed.
We'll trust you to: - Break news on equity and debt offerings- Closely track the day to day of local markets, jumping on significant moves for quick stories and offering broader step-back pieces at key moments- Write compelling stories on emerging trends in Mexico and emerging markets as a whole- Build sources that bring fresh, authoritative voices to our coverage- Collaborate across beats and time zones
You'll need to have:- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in capital markets, from currencies to debt and equities- A healthy rolodex of sources among investors, bankers and traders, and a knack for generating scoops - Strong writing skills - Solid news judgment and a strong sense of urgency- Proven ability to work as a team - The ability to spot stories where others may not see them- A desire to keep learning and build your expertise - Fluency in Spanish is preferred
