Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for leading and managing a significant portion of the general accounting functions through the corporate accounting team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

 

Manage the monthly closing process for assigned areas and review the general ledger activity for accuracy and completeness. Prepare and review detailed monthly variance analyses and verify the integrity of monthly financial results. Prepare and review detailed account reconciliations, develop complex models to support journal entries, create ad hoc financial analyses, and draft accounting memos/position papers.  Present recommendations and proposals to Accounting leadership. Review the analyses and critical assumptions that support accounts requiring significant expense, judgment, or estimation. Partner with key leadership of business areas to understand changes in the business and develop adequate processes to support accounting procedures.  Assist in maintaining detailed internal control documentation that support the preparation of original work and review of the Accounting team’s work in accordance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the standards established by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. Research and analyze accounting issues, such as the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to ensure the company's accounting practices are in compliance. Assist in the development of annual budgets and monthly forecasts for selected accounts. Support the activities of both internal and external auditors throughout the year by providing requested documentation, explanations for large or unusual transactions, and communication of critical accounting processes. Mentor, train, and develop a team of professional and clerical Accounting team members. Required Qualifications

Experience: 5-8 years of experience in Accounting, Financial Reporting, or related field is required. 1-2 years of experience in a leadership role is preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. Master’s degree in Accounting or related field is desired. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.

Professional Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities Strong analytical skills and an aptitude for policy development. Public accounting knowledge is desired. Understand the external market forces that drive the retail business. Technically proficient in GAAP accounting practices and have the ability to communicate them to company leadership. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
