Job Summary/Purpose

Our company is presented with a once in a generation opportunity to grow and transform the power infrastructure and other industries in our region as the world decarbonized.  Developing economical low carbon power supply solution is key to this success.  The power sector is faced with a myriad of new power solutions (for example carbon capture and sequestration, small modular reactors, accessing off-system resources via high-voltage transmission line), new market dynamics and commercial challenges.  This group is to help the company and broader Power Development team to effectively determine and develop the most desirable solution to meet our customers’ needs.  The group’s imperative is to strategically explore low/no carbon solutions to enable design, develop and safely execute owned and competitive low/no carbon solutions which in turns enable growth and achieve our stakeholder’s sustainability objectives while maintaining affordability and reliability.

 

This team, Strategic Exploration, is responsible for developing business cases for the power solutions.  Once the business cases are developed, the project is passed on to the development teams in Power Development.

 

This individual is responsible for the assembly and providing leadership needs of his/her cross-functional team, technology understanding and experience, and building an effective relationship with key internal/external individuals-including contractors, where applicable. Manages risks to ensure risks are identified and mitigated.    

                                                                                                                               

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Lead the exploration of new power supply solutions, commercial structures and supply configuration optimization. Lead the development of business cases and economics of larger power supply projects. Lead problem framing and backlog curation of cost estimation & Power Development analytics. Develop well thought out plan to answer potential abstract questions including determining the optimal exploration path balancing effort and insights / clarity obtained vs. company / project objectives. Coordinate, communicate and co-develop project plans and potential solutions with key internal customers and stakeholders. Leads the project team to develop and execute the Project in accordance with the applicable corporate standards and guidelines. Ensures that team members fulfill the responsibilities as required of their roles. Provides clear, timely and accurate project status reports for management. Prepares reports and presentations to management. Prepares and issues status reports as required. Identifies, makes timely decisions, and takes prompt action on project issues that could impact project performance. Promptly communicates issues to the next level of leadership. Promotes safe behavior, in accordance with Company expectations, and adherence to the safety rules on the project. This position is required to support enterprise-wide DIB initiatives across the project team.  Mentorship and development of their team and the individual team members.  Assures that the Individual Development Plans of each team member is complete and moving forward (as applicable).        

 

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position                                                                                                             

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience will be considered.

Advanced degree preferred.                                                                                                                                              

 

Minimum experience required of the position

8+ years                                                                                                           Developed consensus across key stakeholders and resolve roadblocks Effectively communicated to mid-level and senior management

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

Possessed strong understanding in one or more disciplines in technical, commercial, analytical and regulatory and the ability to achieve project objectives with considerations from these areas in mind Utility & power sector experience / background Power development or system planning experience / background Strategic mindset and business / commercial acumen Managing complex and executive level projects / initiatives; Scrum like experience a plus Solid appreciation of power generation analytics; hands on experience a plus Solid communication skills Ability to tackle abstract questions, ideate and find creative solutions.
