Job Description

Laredo Medical Center is looking for a Full-Time Laboratory Manager. At Laredo Medical Center, our testing and integrated medical records are a key part of our comprehensive care. Our laboratory professionals manage everything from routine diagnostic tests and screenings to providing valuable information for doctors to develop care plans for complex disease. Position's Purpose and Essential Functions:

Performs laboratory collections and associated tasks in accordance with the following job description. Ensures Laredo Medical Center values are reflected in all aspects of the department's operation. Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. Insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department policy and procedure. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulation requirements. Teaches new employees and students in laboratory policies and procedures. Assists lab director in evaluating department data documentation for Proficiency surveys and TJC surveys. Meets with TJC surveyors to evaluate the specific department within the laboratory. Recommends personnel requirements and adheres to policies of personnel daily time management. Oversees peer review for specific department.

Applicant’s Minimum Job Requirements Include:

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or University in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry.Preferred: Master's degree in Laboratory Science or Business Administration. College courses taken must align with CLIA requirements for High Complexity test performance.

Experience: 

Required: A minimum of five (5) years experience working in a clinical laboratory supervisory position.

Licenses/Certificates: 

Required: Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent. Candidates without certification may be accepted for hiring, but the incumbent must achieve certification within 6 months or hire or forfeit employment.
