Summary:
The Regional Manager of Security and Emergency Management is vital in translating organizational strategies into effective and tailored security and emergency management practices across designated Northern Light Health hospital, practices, and properties. This leader is responsible for overseeing a wide range of comprehensive physical security measures, including advanced surveillance systems and access control protocols, and implementing robust workplace violence prevention initiatives that foster a safe environment for all. Additionally, the Manager oversees the development and execution of emergency management programs and drills in collaboration with others to prepare staff for emergencies and crisis situations.
With a strong emphasis on leadership, the Manager of Security and Emergency Management conducts thorough standardized and systematic risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and prioritize safety improvements. Utilizing data-driven decision-making, they analyze trends and incidents to inform and recommend strategic actions. Through cross-functional collaboration, the Manager works closely with various community partners and departments to enhance security protocols and ensure a unified response during emergencies, ultimately safeguarding the health and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Development:
+ Offer robust leadership and guidance to assigned security teams, comprising of Security Supervisors, Lead Officers, and Security Officers, ensuring that all team members clearly understand their roles and responsibilities.
+ Cultivate a cooperative and supportive team culture that encourages open communication, minimizes obstacles to effective performance, and fosters a unified and harmonious work environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to contribute.
+ Leads or co-leads organizational committees, including but not limited to Workplace Violence Prevention Committee, Emergency Management Committee, Safety Committee, and others as appropriate.
System Roles and Responsibilities:
+ Management of security technologies and systems, including video surveillance, access control, staff safety alerting, mass communications, security, emergency management communications, etc.
+ Develops and delivers training and education for newly hired employees and continuous training to ensure security staff proficiency in the use of established technologies and programs.
+ Assists in the development and execution of security and emergency preparedness drills, simulations, tabletop exercises, and other activities as directed in collaboration with others.
+ Organizes and maintains inventories and ensures the completion of required inspections and preventive maintenance and upkeep of all department equipment.
+ Supports Clinical Education in the delivery of training and education required by CMS, JCAHO, OSHA, and other regulatory entities as an instructor and subject matter expert.
Risk and Threat Assessment:
+ Performs comprehensive risk and threat assessments to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities in the workplace, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all employees.
+ Establishes and monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate progress toward strategic improvement objectives, utilizing the data gathered to inform and support effective, evidence-based decision-making practices.
Performance and Data Analysis:
+ Analyzes data related to security incidents, including patterns and frequency, to identify potential risks and areas of improvement.
+ Examines workplace violence occurrences to understand root causes and develops strategic actions to mitigate future incidents.
+ Evaluates emergency preparedness procedures to ensure effectiveness and compliance with safety regulations.
+ Creates detailed reports, summarizes findings, and provides recommendations for each area of analysis.
+ Collaborates with other departments to share insights and integrate findings into broader organizational strategies, enhancing overall service delivery and safety.
Service Oversight and Growth:
+ The Manager is the main contact for addressing service delivery challenges to identify gaps and work with teams to implement effective solutions, ensuring prompt issue resolution.
+ Ensures the team meets its objectives within established goals through monitoring the progress of various tasks and projects, identifying any potential challenges or delays, and proactively adjusting plans as needed to stay on track.
Financial and Budget Management:
+ Develops and manages financial forecasts and comprehensive operating budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations, informed decision-making, and optimal resource allocation.
Performance Management:
+ Oversees the Security and Emergency Management performance management processes, including comprehensive and timely performance appraisals to evaluate employee effectiveness, set goals, and provide constructive feedback for professional development.
+ Manages department recruiting and retention in collaboration with other departments and employees.
Liaison with Law Enforcement:
+ Serve as a key point of contact and facilitator for collaboration with local, state, and federal law enforcement, emergency services, emergency management agencies, and others regarding all aspects of security and emergency management initiatives, exercises, and real-world events.
+ Actively engages with community partners to ensure effective communication and coordination, promoting a comprehensive approach to safety and response strategies in various situations.
Confidentiality and Ethical Standards:
+ Manages highly sensitive information concerning patients, employees, and proprietary data and technologies using strict adherence to NLH policies and all other regulatory standards.
+ Implements robust protocols and training to protect patient privacy and confidentiality, while ensuring all staff members are fully aware of the guidelines governing the handling of such information.
+ Fosters awareness within the organization and encourages the responsible reporting of security incidents, potential risks, or threats by promoting open communication to enhance security practices while ensuring confidentiality and maintaining ethical standards.
Employee Safety and Training:
+ Actively engages in comprehensive safety and security training programs focused on workplace violence prevention, security awareness, emergency preparedness, and employee safety.
+ Works with both internal and external resources to create and deliver effective training and education on situational awareness, threat response, self-defense, and other strategies for recognizing, mitigating, and recovering from violent situations.
+ Collaborates with colleagues to develop and execute security and emergency preparedness tabletop exercises and drills for various emergency scenarios and implement lessons learned.
Investigations:
+ Conducts high-quality investigations into complaints and criminal activities, as appropriate. The Manager works with Human Resources, Law Enforcement, and others to investigate and support appropriate goals.
+ The Manager addresses workplace violence complaints with sensitivity and professionalism by identifying and finding root causes to underlying issues to mitigate future occurrences.
+ Conducts detailed root cause analyses of employee related incidents that result in injuries to identify contributing factors and mitigate future risks.
+ Collaborates closely with Human Resources to assess and address incidents of employee misconduct.
+ Undertakes investigations to uphold the safety and security within the organization and collaborates with Law Enforcement representatives.
Patient Safety Initiatives:
+ Enhances patient safety by implementing and supporting comprehensive patient focused security protocols.
+ Communicates and supports clinical departments to create and maintain safe and secure environments for all caregivers and those supporting them.
+ Develops and promotes proactive strategies to ensure safety measures are prioritized, focusing on the well-being of patients in every aspect of their healthcare experience.
Other Information:
+ Must have a valid Driver’s License and meets Northern Light Health insurability standards.
+ Five or more years of experience in security, safety, emergency management, public safety, or related fields, preferably in a healthcare setting with multiple sites. This includes leading diverse teams, developing policies and protocols, and managing the implementation of effective company-wide policies.
+ Five or more years of practical experience in governmental laws, regulatory compliance, security systems, emergency management, data analysis, crisis communication, and documentation for ensuring the safety, security, and preparedness of others.
