PURPOSE OF POSITION: Lead a team of Construction Managers, ensuring effective construction planning and execution within the GCI project framework while adhering to applicable codes and standards. Accountable to ensure the construction management team is adequately represented in the entire construction scope, from concept selection to design to overseeing field execution and final handover to operations within the projects’ scope, schedule, and budget constraints. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS: This leadership position requires the following non-delegable responsibilities: + Fully own the mission, goals, operations, and results of the team and areas of responsibility. + Provide strong leadership to span of control (direct and indirect reports); demonstrate effective leadership in all interactions companywide. This leadership includes generating enthusiasm and shared commitment; identifying and setting direction; teaching, growing, and empowering; owning outcomes; and leading by example. Specific leadership duties include: + Establishing the vision and tone for the department, consistent with company culture and mission. + Establishing clear, measurable, and achievable goals and performance expectations and following up appropriately. + Hiring individuals who can accomplish those goals and meet those expectations; providing them the open communication, training, tools, and mentoring needed to be successful and develop professionally; establishing a development path commensurate with capabilities and potential. + Providing clear and accurate feedback to individuals and teams on a timely and consistent basis. Identifying and addressing performance problems early and effectively before they damage GCI’s interests and demoralize other employees. + Effectively managing processes including annual performance reviews, compensation adjustments, promotions, demotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions up to and including termination in an unbiased and consistent manner. Construction Leadership: + Oversee all phases of construction, from initial planning and design through to final delivery and handover. + Ensure construction activities align with project goals and are performed within the overall project plan.. + Lead construction kickoff meetings to establish roles, responsibilities, and expectations among team members. + Proactively identify potential challenges and implement solutions to mitigate risks and ensure project success. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: + Foster a collaborative environment by facilitating regular meetings between engineers, project managers, and support staff to progress construction scope. + Ensure effective communication channels are established and maintained throughout the project lifecycle. + Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate feedback and make necessary adjustments to construction plans, enhancing overall project outcomes. + Encourage knowledge sharing and best practices among team members to drive innovation and efficiency. Comprehensive Project Planning: + Conduct thorough evaluations of construction requirements, including scope, timelines, resources, and logistics. + Implement comprehensive risk assessment processes to identify potential obstacles and develop contingency plans. + Analyze market trends and technological advancements to inform construction planning and execution. + Utilize data-driven decision-making to refine construction strategies and enhance performance metrics. Timeline & Budget Development and Oversight: + Create and maintain detailed construction timelines, ensuring clarity on key milestones and deliverables. + Develop accurate construction budgets, considering all costs associated with labor, materials, equipment, and contingencies. + Monitor expenditures and adjust as necessary to stay within budget while ensuring quality standards are met. + Proactively communicate any delays or issues to stakeholders, providing actionable solutions to keep the project on track. + Conduct regular site visits and status meetings to assess work completion and address any emerging issues. Quality Assurance: + Establish and enforce construction quality assurance protocols and safety standards to uphold the highest levels of workmanship. + Conduct regular inspections of work completed to ensure compliance with design specifications and regulatory requirements. + Facilitate training sessions for team members on quality control processes and safety procedures. + Review and analyze inspection reports, using findings to implement continuous improvement initiatives. Team Development: + Mentor and coach project team members, providing guidance on best practices in construction management and leadership. + Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging professional development opportunities and training. + Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to enhance team capabilities. + Promote a positive work environment that values collaboration, innovation, and shared success. Reporting & Documentation: + Prepare comprehensive project reports detailing construction progress, challenges, and outcomes for stakeholders at all levels. + Maintain organized documentation of construction plans, contracts, changes, and correspondence to ensure transparency and accountability. + Utilize visual aids (charts, graphs) to enhance presentations and facilitate stakeholder understanding of construction status. + Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. Minimum Qualifications: Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis + High School diploma or equivalent. + Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field. * + Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in positions of increased responsibility within an environment focused on construction, maintenance, project management, or related background. * + Including a minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or management position. Preferred: + Relevant Master’s degree. + Telecommunications experience, specifically in telecommunication infrastructure projects. + Relevant telecom industry or job specific certifications. + PMP, LEED DRIVING REQUIREMENTS: + This position requires driving a company-owned vehicle, company provided vehicle, or a personal vehicle on behalf of the company. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and successfully complete Defensive Driving course. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS: + Work can be intense and stressful due to time and resource limitations when scheduling multiple tasks with inflexible deadlines. + May have to deal with upset customers, vendors, contractors. + Position requires occasional travel for business and training purposes, sometimes on short notice. + Extensive travel to worksites during construction season may be required. + Work performed at office, remote office, and client sites. + Work is primarily sedentary, requiring daily routine computer usage. + Ability to work shifts as assigned, work in standard office/home office setting, and operate standard office equipment. + Ability to accurately communicate information and ideas to others effectively. + Physical agility and effort sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively. + Ability to make valid judgments and decisions. + Available to work additional time on weekends, holidays, before or after normal work hours when necessary. + Must work well in a team environment and be able to work with a diverse group of people and customers. + Virtual workers must comply with remote work policies and agreements. + This position may require field visits to construction sites and collaboration with various teams in an office setting. Flexibility in work hours may be necessary to accommodate project timelines and client needs. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the core business hours to respond to the immediate emergency.
