Summary:
The Director Respiratory Sleep & Cardiovascular Services reports to the Senior Director of Operations Quality Patient Safety & Risk. Plans organizes and directs overall activities of services in the Respiratory Therapy Department Sleep Lab and Cardiovascular Department. Duties include development and implementation of policies and procedures operation of programs and services and direction of personnel.
Responsibilities:
Interprets and implements philosophy policies/procedures and standards of practice in all areas of responsibility. Participates in the development and support of the goals of Morton Hospital.
Ensures that clinical practice in all areas of responsibility reflects the philosophy and standards of Morton Hospital and Brown University Health. Sets unit goals with leaders and staff that are in agreement with those of the Department. Maintains visibility and accessibility to management and entire staff.
Acts as a resource to develop service lines and assess programs including determining market position and providing analysis for decision making assisting in the preparation of business plans capital and resource planning evaluating performance and monitoring for quality assurance and improvement.
In collaboration with physicians and senior management analyzes space utilization in department and related proposals for change. For major capital improvements to facilities and /or equipment consults with hospital facilities operations manager and prepares preliminary drafts of specifications. Reviews proposals and examines same for appropriateness in order to formulate recommendations on their approval/rejection prior to submission to review by others.
Develops and implements plans for the operation of programs and services. Develops implements monitors and evaluates systems to provide efficient effective quality services to inpatients and outpatient populations. Investigates methods of operation that will provide improved customer service in a cost-effective manner.
Collaborates with inter-departmental managers in matters of mutual concern. Participates as an active member of various nursing and hospital committees as assigned by the Senior Director CNO and other operational leaders.
Collaborates with the physician groups to identify quality improvement opportunities and works with the groups to establish quality goals.
Confers with the Chiefs of Services to identify revenue enhancing programs develop implement and evaluate development consistent with national trends.
Respiratory- In addition to the duties of the Respiratory Therapist revises the work activities of the Respiratory Care Department for optimal use of material and human resources. Plays an active role in in-service education and orientation programs throughout the hospital and coordinates activities with other hospital departments. Also coordinates staffing equipment and needs of the department
Sleep Lab- Coordinates staffing equipment and other needs of the department. Provides in-service education and orientation programs for the department and surrounding community. Maintains the lab�s accreditation with the AASM keeping up with the latest guidelines and procedures.
Cardio- Coordinates staffing equipment and other needs of the department. Provides in-service education and orientation programs for the department. Works to provide active inpatient and outpatient services for the community and providers at the hospital.
Pulmonary Rehab � Manges the Pulmonary Rehab program working closely with providers on all referred patients. Coordinates staff to provide all ordered and required patient treatment. Maintains and improves patient education and exercise programs. Moderates any necessary patient meetings.
Monitors and evaluates all activities related to personnel management and patient care developing and implementing policies and procedures to effect ongoing improvement in the management of assigned departments and programs.
Hires supervises evaluates promotes and counsels staff. Analyzes staffing patterns. Coordinates staffing and nursing personnel information which may indicate personnel needs. Reviews personnel counseling with subordinate supervisors recommending and/or approving personnel actions as needed.
Prepares the departmental budget by reviewing budget requests and justification for specific areas. Investigates methods of operation which will provide improved patient care in a cost-effective manner. Operates assigned areas within the designated annual budget.
Monitors evaluates and maintains a safe environment in all areas of responsibility by establishing guidelines in collaboration with the departments of Infection Control Engineering Surgery and Anesthesia for technical and aseptic practice electrical safety occupational safety and environmental control and hygiene.
Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Required Qualifications:
� Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Care (or related field)
or
� Associates Degree in Respiratory Care (or related field) and 3 years experience as a manager/supervisor in Respiratory Care
� Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care
� Current MA state RT license
� BLS and NRP certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
� Registered or Registry Eligible � Polysomnographer or Respiratory Sleep Disorder Specialist (RRT-SDS)
� 3 years experience in a Sleep Medicine Department
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Seven to ten years of progressively responsible hospital management experience preferably in an academic medical center.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Normal office environment. Requires standing bending and sitting. Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common office equipment. Ability to lift boxes of paper files and/or medical records. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs independently within department and hospital policies and procedures referring unusual problems to the Senior Director of Operations Quality Patient Safety & Risk.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisory responsibility of lead technologists and FTEs directly or indirectly.
