Summary:

Assists in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons.

 

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and skill when assisting the surgical team throughout the procedure.
Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy for surgical procedures anticipates supplies needed and had supplies available when needed.
Adhere to aseptic techniques practices correcting breaks in technique if they occur.
Performs sponge sharps and instruments counts according to MH&MC policy and procedure.
Prepares the room with appropriate instruments supplies and equipment before the procedure and prepares the instruments for the decontamination process removes unused supplies and equipment and restocks the room.
Handles specimens appropriately identifying them correctly.
Managers repair of instruments and equipment obtains loaners if necessary notifies appropriate personnel and follows up when necessary.
Participates with the OR team to identify the patient procedure and the side/site of surgery according to MH&MC policy and procedure.
Employee will comply with the principles of Infection Control and Aseptic Technique.

EDUCATION:

High School education or equivalent.


Surgical Tech certification required. BLS Certification required.
