The Program

Mallinckrodt is offering an 11-week internship program, which provides an immersive experience in the world of pharmaceuticals. As an MNK Intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful and impactful work that compliments the degree you are pursuing. Here, you will be able to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to a corporate environment. In addition, our internship program is designed to include networking opportunities across the company, professional development workshops, and community service.

Summary

This is a paid internship within the SpecGx Microbiology Laboratory Center of Excellence based in St. Louis. The intern will be exposed to the concepts of working inside a regulated microbiological GMP laboratory environment. The expectations for this role will be assisting with general tasks supporting the function of the microbiological lab as well as working with a senior member of the QC Microbiology department to complete a long-term development project.

Job Description

Essential Functions

Follow good documentation practices for the accurate and timely documentation of all activities.Perform the following core activities:Waste disposal including disposal of hazardous materials, media plates and non-controlled samples.Daily calibration of instruments, including but not limited to:BalancesOrder and stock lab suppliesSterilize materials via autoclaveHelp generate samples within the laboratory information management system.Housekeeping - cGMPDEA destructionFollow site HSE PoliciesAssist with establishing & maintaining safe work standards in the lab.Assist with projects in support of the laboratory. This may require donning laboratory PPE and working inside a laminar flow hood.

Education / Experience / Skills:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Active pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in a science related field (Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology) is required.Working knowledge of wet chemistry requiredBasic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office SuiteAcquaintance with and understanding of application of basic microbiological principles, theories, and concepts.Use and/or Basic knowledge of industry practices and standardsPrevious Pharmaceutical experience is a plus

Organizational Relationship/Scope:

Reports to the Supervisor Quality Microbiological Testing. Contacts involve matters of moderate importance to the organization and include R&D, Marketing, Production employees including Engineers, Supervisors, and Operators, Logistics, EHS, and DEA. Infrequent customer contacts on routine matters
