Microbiologist Biofilm Lab Internship
Launch Your Career Into Higher Orbit! **Are you determined to work with Space Programs?** As an Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) intern, you will work alongside engineers and scientists on hardware development, payload integration & operations, laboratory & test operations, modeling & simulation, space environments, scientific research and propulsion systems for programs like Human Landing Systems, Space Launch Systems and the International Space Station! As a **Microbiologist Biofilm Lab intern,** you will enhance your knowledge in the Testing arena, Technical skillset and Hand-On lab support by: • Assisting with test planning and performing media preparation, autoclaving of materials and prepare Alconox, antibiotics, light chemicals when needed. • Bringing bacterial/fungal frozen stocks to life upon request • Performing colony counting, drop-plate, spiral plate, and antibiotic plating. • Enhancing your knowledge of growth curves, spectroscopy, microscopy • Assisting in maintaining lab cleanliness and instrumentation as well as ordering materials and support test planning by keeping list of materials. • Keeping records of laboratory procedures and review documents and manuscripts • Organizing chemicals and refrigerated chemicals/biologicals while maintaining biohazardous waste dates/bins. • Experience with some statistics/graphing software (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Basic Qualifications Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science degree program in Chemistry or Microbiology or related STEM degree is required. Prefer completion of your sophomore year. Degree program at an ABET accredited institution preferred. **Must be able to provide own transportation.** **Essential Functions** **Work Environment:** Office and Laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<10%) **Physical Requirements:** Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%). **Equipment and Machines:** Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%). **Attendance:** Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required. **Other Essential Functions:** The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%).
