Overview Goldbelt C6 protects the safety and health of the country by supporting civilian public health and defense medical marketspace. C6 offers research and development, engineering, and logistics services that enhance and enlarge customers' operations. C6's expertise is focused on integrating C6ISR and scientific, engineering, and technical support for various government partners. The experts at C6 are research and data-driven and ready to create custom solutions. Summary: The focus of the Microbiologist will be to continue contributions of new E. coli whole genome sequences to GenomeTrakr. Will generate further depth in whole genome sequence-based database development of live microbial ingredients. These two efforts will involve bioinformatics support for assembly and sequencing quality controls necessary before depositing into public databases. the focus on new in vitro cell culture assay development for chemical toxicants. Our framework involves broad disparate disciplines that span a spectrum of food-associated microbes and molecular chemical toxicology. Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: Generate new whole genome sequences of Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli, and Campylobacter, as requested, from soil, biological soil amendments (e.g., manure and compost), water, and produce samples from different regions in the US, using Illumina MiSeq and NextSeq platforms. Generate metagenomic sequencing-based both for pathogen detection and commensal identification for hazard-commodity analysis, which includes the pathogens mentioned above, with produce, soil, biological soil amendments, and water samples as the commodity. Detect and identify the pathogens mentioned above in the various environmental samples listed above using culture techniques specific to each pathogen as per the FDA BAM or other validated methods. Perform quality control, assembly, and upload of newly generated sequencing data into appropriate public repositories such as Genome Trakr and NCBI. Assist in evaluating the broad areas of molecular microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, recombinant DNA technology, microbial population genetics and evolution, and genomics/metagenomics. Provide a Technical report describing program progress, which documents and summarizes the results of work completed throughout the entirety of the applicable task order year. Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge: Ability to multi-task, follow detailed instructions, pay attention to details. Ability to follow detailed instructions.
