Microbiology Lab Technician - 1st Shift

Job Description This position involves performing and documenting routine tasks related to sample processing and assays using written operating procedures, standard laboratory methods, and basic laboratory techniques, functions, and equipment. The role requires conducting specific procedures and tests both within and outside of the laboratory, modifying or adapting techniques to fit special needs, calculating data from routine tests to final results, and evaluating results for accuracy. You will assist with and occasionally perform specialized and non-routine tests and assays, maintaining records of such work. Coordination and planning of assigned work with other technicians and scientists are also key responsibilities. The standard working hours are 9 am - 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Responsibilities + Receive, register, and prepare samples for general analytical testing through data entry, weighing, and physical preparation. + Perform routine to more complex analyses per established methods. + Read and record results of analyses, ensuring correct sample identification. + Operate basic laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, colorimeters, spectrophotometers, autoclaves, and evaporators. + Prepare and assure accuracy of standards and reagents needed for analyses. + Acid wash glassware and specially clean other equipment and areas as required. + Function as primary data generator, recording and calculating data, and signing assay sheets. + Perform routine lab and department maintenance to keep areas clean and orderly. + Interpret customer requests and perform receiving and log-in functions. + Conduct preliminary interpretations of data or observations and draft short reports to supervisors. + Carry out assignments in a timely, diligent, and safe manner, adhering to standard operating procedures. + Assure adherence to safety regulations. Essential Skills + Laboratory experience + Plating + Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) + Knowledge in chemistry, microbiology, and biology + Proficiency in data entry + Proficiency in Microsoft Office products Required Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry or a similar field (Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, etc.) OR a high school diploma with substantial tenure in a fast-paced position + Basic computer skills Work Environment The position is set in a team-oriented laboratory environment with multiple microbiology and chemistry labs. It requires occasional overtime of up to 5 hours per week, which is not planned in advance. The standard working hours are 9 am - 5:30 pm, Tues-Sat. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.27 - $23.27 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
