Job Title: Microbiology Lab TechnicianJob Description
We are seeking a Microbiology Lab Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory testing on all incoming samples accurately and efficiently, ensuring that sample turnaround time goals are met or exceeded. Additionally, you will be required to enter sample data into the eLIMS system in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
+ Perform laboratory testing on all incoming samples accurately and efficiently.
+ Ensure sample turnaround time goals are met or exceeded.
+ Keep the work area clean, sanitized, and tidy.
+ Homogenize and aseptically split samples into bags.
+ Enrich samples with media.
+ Incubate samples using the LIMS system.
+ Check samples into retain using storage management.
+ Identify non-conformances and out-of-specifications samples.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Strong background in biology, microbiology, or related fields.
+ Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including media preparation, aseptic and sterile techniques, and plating.
+ Quality assurance experience in a laboratory setting.
+ Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ AAS or BA degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
+ Comfortable working in a fast-paced lab environment.
+ Positive personality and strong attention to detail.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ Willingness to learn and train on new techniques.
Work Environment
This role is based in a dynamic microbiology lab where you will be involved in testing pet food, ingredients, nutraceuticals, and food dyes. The lab operates with a high level of time sensitivity, often requiring flexibility with hours to manage heavy sample volumes, which may result in overtime. The two available shifts are: (1) Tuesday - Saturday, 1 PM - 9:30 PM (with Saturday 9 AM - 5:30 PM), and (2) Tuesday - Saturday, 2 PM - 10:30 PM. The position is initially a 5-month contract, with the possibility of extension or transition to a permanent role based on performance and business needs. Dress code includes lab-appropriate wear such as long pants, closed-toe shoes, lab coat, and safety glasses. The work primarily involves standing and manual dexterity.
