Schedules, coordinates and monitors the day to day operational functions of Microbiology. Implements quality standards
and provides oversight of section processes to achieve excellent outcome and quality patient care. Performs Laboratory
testing on patient and control samples. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.
This knowledge includes the use of specialized analytical instrumentation, clinical correlation of test results, quality control
requirements, and preventative maintenance. Maintains department readiness for regulatory inspections and compliance
requirements. Maintains department policy and procedure manuals in accordance with hospital policy. Is responsible for
department quality control records, instrument maintenance, regulatory agency compliance, and supply process.
Participates in the continuous quality improvement process through professional development, continuing education,
data collection and evaluation, and quality assurance. Develops and maintains orientation, training and competency tools
and ensures compliance. Assists the Director in evaluating and documenting employee performance. Assists Director
in the recruitment, hiring, termination and retention of employees. Coordinates staff development activities of section
including education, competency completion, validation, and orientation. Participates in data collection and analysis as
requested by management.
Maximizes efficiency in section operations. Exhibits willingness to resolve problems as they arise.

Qualifications Education/Training/ExperienceEarned a doctoral or bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Six years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in an acute care laboratory with minimum 6 months microbiology experience. Four years supervisory experience preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Current State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License
American College of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) registration preferred
