Mid Level Electrical Engineer

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Facilities Electrical Group. In this role, you will work with a multi-disciplinary engineering team leading and executing the electrical power components of industrial and government projects. The position involves creating and issuing construction drawings and specifications, bills of material, construction cost estimates, power system studies and reports.  Well qualified candidates will demonstrate solid working design knowledge of grounding, lightning and surge protection, lighting, protective relaying, prime and standby generation, low and medium voltage motor control centers and switchgear, medium voltage substations, mission-critical power systems, and UPS systems.  Thorough knowledge and experience with the NEC, NFPA documents, ICC documents, energy codes, and applicable IEEE standards are required. Experience with modeling electrical systems and running power system studies using ETAP, PTW, or EasyPower is strongly preferred. Team leadership, mentoring, excellent communication and presentation skills, personal motivation, a positive attitude, and the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently are key attributes.  An ability to create accurate estimates of engineering effort, compose client proposals, and drive projects to successful completion within budget and schedule constraints is needed. The applicant will interface directly with internal and external clients and some travel to vendor and client sites will be required. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment ore remote for the right candidate.  Position reports into the Boise, Idaho office. 

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role, you will work as part of a multi-discipline engineering team leading and executing the electrical components of federal and industrial projects. The position will entail creating and issuing construction drawings and specifications, studies, and reports, as well as, being able to demonstrate good working design knowledge of grounding, lightning protection, surge protection, lighting, protective relaying, prime and standby generation, low and medium voltage motor control centers, low and medium voltage switchgear, medium voltage substations, and UPS systems. Applicant should have knowledge and experience with the NEC, NFPA, ICC, UFC, energy codes, and applicable IEEE codes and standards. Experience with modeling electrical systems and performing power system studies using ETAP, PTW, or EasyPower is strongly preferred. Strong team leadership, mentoring, excellent communication skills, presentation skills, motivation, positive attitude, and ability to work on multiple projects concurrently will be core roles for this person. The applicant will interface directly with internal and external clients and will demonstrate a proven ability to drive projects to successful completion within budget and schedule constraints. An understanding of how relationships with clients on the Hawaiian Islands differ from client relationships on the US mainland is critical to this position. This position will be responsible for maintaining current long-term client relationships as well as seeking out and developing relationships with new clients on the Hawaiian Islands, the US Mainland, and abroad. Some travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university EIT (FE) Certificate 5+ years of applicable experience in the design and specification of low and medium voltage power distribution systems, lighting systems, and special systems for federal and industrial facilities Ability to work with and be supported by other senior engineers for guidance and act as an electrical lead or project lead Shall be capable of self-performing all electrical engineering tasks associated with the project; from proposal, design and drafting, engineering calculations, cost estimate, to client reviews and construction support Capability to work with other discipline leads, PMs, and others to manage and run all the Electrical efforts for the team on a project while supporting the needs of other disciplines to effectively coordinate a project Ability to mentor junior or mid-level electrical engineers and designers Effective in prioritizing and meeting deadlines, while also adapting to change Excellent oral and written communication skills with cross-disciplinary team members and clients Ability to promote and market electrical scope and your skills to new and existing clients Desired Education/Experience Experience designing to NAVFAC and USACE design standards Professional Engineering (PE) License  with the ability to be licensed in additional states MasterSpec/SpecsIntact specification authoring and editing experience Construction cost estimating experience A solid foundation of design and drafting utilizing AutoCAD and/or REVIT
