Summary:
The Virginian-Pilot is seeking a Military Reporter to cover the world's largest naval base and a vibrant veteran community. This high-impact role focuses on watchdog journalism and compelling storytelling, requiring creativity, resourcefulness, and strong source cultivation skills.
What you will do:
Deliver impactful investigative, explanatory, and feature stories on military topics
Produce diverse content including photos, videos, tweets, web updates, and in-depth print articles
Cultivate sources at all levels within the military
Collaborate with reporters, photographers, and editors
Thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to breaking news
What you will bring:
Strong news judgment with a collaborative approach
A passion for in-depth reporting and storytelling
Proficiency in various content creation formats
Ability to work weekends and occasional breaking news shifts
A college degree and at least two years of daily journalism experience (preferred)
Driver’s license and reliable transportation required
