Milk Room Technician
+ Perform daily, hands-on aspects of the storage, preparation and delivery of mother’s breast milk, as well as infant, pediatric, and adult formulas. + Receive, document and record all mother’s breast milk received to ensure exact inventory. + Follow established handling, preparation and storage procedures for breast milk in accordance with State of Michigan, OSEH, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and HMBANA guidelines. + Reconcile all breast milk and formula orders with physician’s orders. + When necessary, verify physician orders for breast milk and/or mixed formulas with the RDN or ordering clinician. + Use computerized systems to reconcile breast milk and formula feeding orders, prepare labels and production lists. + Follow all established procedures for safe and accurate production of all breast milk, formula fortifiers and/or nutritional additives. + Ensure proper use of necessary labels to accurately identify and track prepared products. + Deliver final prepared breast milk and/or mixed formula products to individual patient room refrigerators based on scheduled morning delivery time. + Clean and sanitize all work surfaces before and after each feeding preparation period. + Clean utensils, equipment, and storage areas used in the Milk Room according to established procedures. + Follow aseptic technique in breast milk and/or formula preparation. + Follow established procedures of the Milk Room and client regarding handling of breast milk and items related to feeding. + Follow established procedures for maintenance of personal hygiene standards and use of protective gear. + Ensure all products are used within the manufacturer’s safe usage recommendation. + Follow procedures for formula recalls at the direction of the supervisor. + Monitor and document daily refrigeration and freezer temperature and sanitation records per policy. + Monitor all equipment in the Milk Room for proper operation and report problems to supervisor per policy. + Provides basic food/drug interaction education to patients. + Uses the electronic health record (MiChart) to complete job functions as outlined in assigned job routine. + Delivers oral nutrition supplements and enteral nutrition formulas to patient bedside in alignment with orders. + Protects confidential patient information when performing primary duties and responsibilities. + Provides service recovery, as needed. Requirements + High school diploma or equivalent. + Basic computer skills, including use of email. + Able to use phones, computers, pagers, and printers efficiently to complete job tasks. + Able to lift 15 pounds. + Able to walk a considerable distance and stand for a long period of time.
