Covia is looking for a dynamic Mine Supervisor who will have a positive impact on the operations team at its Blue Mountain, Ontario location. As a Mine Supervisor, you will supervise and direct all NSO mining activities in a safe, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective manner, with emphasis on Continuous Improvement.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
Provide safety leadership by participating in the Covia safety program, through direct interaction with hourly personnel. Maintain compliance with safety regulations, company policies and procedures. Reinforce safe behaviours and promote a high level of housekeeping, ergonomic initiatives, and near hit reporting. Lead all safety meetings. With direction from the Mine Manager, lead, and train teams of hourly employees to maximize mine productivity through safe, best practice work behaviours. Communicate production targets and report results achieved, daily. Ensure all activities in the mine comply with local environmental regulations, company policies and procedures. Complete reporting requirements as required and take part in ongoing training of hourly personnel. Trouble-shoot production and mechanical issues while on shift. Co-ordinate daily maintenance activities with the Mobile Maintenance and Maintenance Supervisor. Report all equipment faults promptly to ensure timely repairs on all equipment. Ensure timely investigation and reporting on all department related safety incidents. Comply with report recommendations to prevent further occurrences. Schedule and coordinate all aspects of mining production while on shift. Produce daily shift reports. Maintain positive relationships with unionized hourly personnel as an agent of the company and safety leader on shift. Administer work while staying within the guidelines laid out in the collective agreement.The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in mining engineering preferred; degree accepted in lieu of supervisory experience. Any other post-secondary education an asset. High school or equivalent required. 5+ years of open pit mining experience required. The ideal candidate will be a leader with prior experience supervising in a mining, industrial or mineral processing environment. Exhibit a team focus and the ability to achieve results through others. Mobile Equipment operating/training experience is considered an asset. Understands the capabilities and proper utilization of Front-End Loaders, Excavators, Rigid Frame Haul Trucks, Graders, and Drills. Proficient with Microsoft office products. Candidate must be safety focused, detail oriented, and a natural leader.
