Job Description
As a Technical Specialist, you will provide quality test results by operating general chemistry, performing manual methods, and utilizing other available instrumentation in the laboratory. You will analyze and organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling, sorting specimens, checking labeling, logging specimens, and arranging reports for delivery, ensuring work surfaces remain clean and orderly. You will be responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. You will also maintain quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine maintenance and troubleshooting, and calibrating equipment using approved testing procedures. Additionally, you will process and test up to 1000 samples per shift, work with blood and urine samples, and maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
ResponsibilitiesOperate general chemistry and perform manual methods.Utilize available laboratory instrumentation.Match computer orders with specimen labeling.Sort specimens and check labeling.Log specimens and arrange reports for delivery.Keep work surfaces clean and orderly.Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations.Maintain quality results through standards and controls.Verify equipment function with routine maintenance and troubleshooting.Calibrate equipment using approved testing procedures.Process and test up to 1000 samples per shift.Work with blood and urine samples for testing.Maintain records of proficiency testing samples.Essential SkillsBachelor's Degree and/or MLT or MLS with 3-5 years of experience in a Clinical Laboratory or equivalent combination of education and work experience.Experience in healthcare chemistry bench (urine/blood testing).Experience validating assays in a Clinical Laboratory, ideally in Chemistry or Special Chemistry testing.Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.Strong communication and collaboration skills.Experience working with Beckman AU700 and Beckman AU5812.Experience with liquid handlers.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in a clinical healthcare lab setting.Experience with clinical laboratory validation.Work Environment
The laboratory includes R&D, specimen receiving, chemistry, microbiology, and toxicology. Routine day shifts start around 7am or 8am, with 8-hour shifts. During surge periods, shifts may rotate between 1st and 2nd shifts. The dress attire includes long pants, t-shirts, and closed-toed shoes, and lab coats are required when handling specimens. The team enjoys a family-like atmosphere with various fun activities, such as food truck events, dress-down days, talent shows, and fashion shows during lab week. Holiday pay and vacation are included, with five holidays observed.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $43.27/hr.
