WBTW News 13 is Myrtle Beach/Florence’s #1 rated news team on air and on digital. WBTW News 13, a CBS Affiliate Station owned by Nexstar Media Inc. We are looking for a hungry, dedicated journalist, for this hybrid MMJ/Reporter/newscast Producer position. The news team has the mindset of a ‘breaking news’ team, where journalism matters and sets us apart from the others. This position is based out of the station in Myrtle Beach. You will learn from a team that can help mentor and guide you, giving you a skill set that can take you to the next level. The position usually calls for reporting as an MMJ Reporter 2-3 days a week, and produce 1 hour of news the other days of the 5 day workweek. As an MMJ Reporter, you will produce, report, shoot, write, voice, edit, feed, and present content for all media platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers. All applicants must submit a video reel of previous on-air work. You will be serving a community that was voted for the past 2 years by U.S. News & World Report as one of the “Best Places to Live in the U.S” The publication cited good value, being a desirable place to live, having a strong job market and a high quality of life as prerequisites for making the top of this list. Yes, we have 60 miles of beautiful beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. But the area also has 1,900 restaurants, over 80 golf courses and the amenities you won’t find elsewhere.
The Multimedia Journalist Reporter produces, reports, shoots, writes, voices, edits and feeds news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers.
Additional Job Description
+ Reports news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events
+ Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories
+ Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
+ Reviews and evaluates notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and details
+ Determines a story’s emphasis, length and format, and organizes material accordingly
+ Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
+ Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
+ Pitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community
+ Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas
+ Discusses issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions
+ Checks reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts
+ Revises work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements
+ Shoots and edits news events and news reports
+ Produces and presents reports for all platforms
+ Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
+ Writes stories for the web and other eMedia platforms
+ Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites
+ Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
+ Fluency in English
+ Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
+ Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
+ Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
+ Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
+ Flexibility to work any shift
The News Producer produces daily newscast items, decides the order in which stories will be told, writes teases and other content, times news programs, edits video, and posts video to the website.
