The MMS Laboratory Technician is part of a technical team performing laboratory testing and evaluations of industrial and pressure piping components, maintaining quality processes and accreditations, and supporting our business groups, suppliers, and customers.  This technical role supports safety, product reliability, user confidence, and business goals by providing technical evaluations of products and manufacturing as well as evaluating conformity with specifications, standards, and business requirements.

Responsibilities:

Use and maintain equipment and instruments used to assess technical conformity of metallic productsPrepare samples and specimens for testing using sectioning, mounting, and polishing equipmentEvaluate and test products to applicable product standards and specificationsPerform measurements with tools such as calipers, micrometers, and thread gaugesPerform tests and evaluations using OES & XRF spectrometers, hardness testers, tensile testers, pressure testing, nondestructive testing, microscopes, and vision systemsPrepare appropriate records, reports, and summaries for lab processes, equipment, testing, and resultsSupport goals for proficient and accurate testing, evaluation, and advisingBe a technical resource for inspection, evaluation, and product performance analysis and/or developmentProvide excellent technical support and prioritized services to support our company, product development, customers, and suppliersSupport our ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory accreditationParticipate in and maintain required training, skills, and proficiencies

Qualifications:

Solid work ethics, self-starting, and reliable attendance and performance of dutiesExperience in a metallurgical or materials testing lab, or similar technical environmentExperience preparing, testing, and evaluating samples in a metallurgical testing laboratory (e.g., metallography, mechanical testing, and failure investigation / analysisFluent in English, and conversant communicating sophisticated technical informationAbility to comprehend written technical standards, work instructions, safety instructions, user / maintenance manuals, etc., as well as verbal and written trainingAptitude to maintain instruments, tools, etc. and prepare samples and specimensAbility to prioritize and handle stress, and work well in a fast-paced environmentAbility to work both independently and within a cohesive, goal-oriented teamMaturity to work well with associates, vendors, and customersStrong critical thinking abilities with a growth mindsetVision appropriate for duties and responsibilitiesMobility and physical condition necessary for safely handling piping components and using hazardous equipment; also, the ability to lift 50 lb, unaided

Preferred:

AAS or BS in a mechanical, metallurgical, materials science, engineering, or related technical fieldExperience testing and/or inspecting industrial, metal pressure piping componentsExperience with industrial standards, specifications, codes, and organizations (e.g., API, ASME, ASTM, MSS, ISO, NACE, EPRI)Experience with common quality systems (e.g., ISO, Six Sigma, LEAN) and office performance tools (e.g., Teams, Excel, PowerBI, Oracle)SNT-TC-1A certification of Level II or III in MT, PT, and/or RTASQ Certification(s) (e.g., CQI, CQE)

Pay Range:

$15.00 - $27.50

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
