Job Description
We are seeking an experienced mobile phlebotomist to join our team in Jersey City. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. This role requires someone who can collect and store specimens according to established procedures while providing clear and courteous explanations to patients.
ResponsibilitiesCollect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections such as urine or fecal samples.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples at the required temperature, place samples in appropriate containers, accurately label, and follow necessary protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsProficiency in blood draws and phlebotomy, including experience with hard sticks.Ability to float and drive own vehicle.1+ years of high-volume phlebotomy experience.Knowledge of medical terminology, use of centrifuges, blood pressure measurement, and medical assisting.Additional Skills & QualificationsGED or HS Diploma.Experience with hard sticks.1+ years of high-volume phlebotomy experience.Ability to float and drive own vehicle.Work Environment
This position involves floating within a 60-minute radius of Jersey City, covering areas such as Clifton, Livingston, Maplewood, and Hudson County, with potential to work at other sites. The schedule is 40 hours weekly, with assignments sent on Sunday evenings. The role requires flexibility, as you may be asked to cover sites last minute, working any day between 7am-8pm and every other Saturday from 7am-3pm typically. You will rotate between different medical practices, such as internal medicine, OBGYN, and pediatrics. Mileage expenses can be submitted for distances over 30 miles from your home and for travel between locations on the same day. The ideal candidate must be adaptable to new environments, comfortable handling different personalities and demographics, and prepared for schedule changes with little notice.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
