The Mobile Specialist serves in many capacities, including Developer, Engineer, Technical Architect, and Analyst for Mobile Development, Security, and/or Infrastructure Projects
The Mobile Specialist (MS1) will support the State of New Jersey with the documentation and analysis of mobile radio antenna support structures and radio equipment installation facilities, fiber optic and microwave backhaul facilities, state and local data center facilities and other assets and facilities owned and operated by state, county and local jurisdiction governments throughout the State of New Jersey. This data must be assembled from the respective jurisdiction and agency owners, and analyzed to assess possible integration into a critical statewide public safety broadband mobile data network. The requisite data will be obtained from the data owners in all available formats and integrated into a common data format and geo-coded for integration into the State’s Geographic Information System (GIS).
In this capacity, the MS will collaborate with State project leadership to identify all potential sources of the information, coordinate outreach to obtain the data, categorize the assets based on the mobile broadband network requirements, and assess the assets to determine if and how the assets could be integrated into the broadband network.
Preferred Education: 4 year college degree or equivalent technical study
Years of Relevant Experience: 6-8 years
Role Description: All roles specified in the MS1 position description plus the following:
• Have working knowledge of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN), FirstNet, and public safety wireless broadband systems, devices and applications
• Have working experience in supporting state and local public safety entities regarding mission critical voice and data communications
• Extensive experience and working knowledge of wireless network system engineering and fiber optic and microwave network design and architectures
• Ability to assess and evaluate the integration of antenna support structures and mobile communications equipment installation facilities
• Ability to assess and evaluate the bandwidth availability and requirement to upgrade fiber optic and microwave backhaul transport systems to support the future public safety broadband network
• Support the State in conducting outreach to state, county and local jurisdictions to define and collect relevant asset data
• Guide and develop requirements and standards to advance interoperable communications between land mobile radio and public safety wireless broadband networks and applications
• Competent with various data management systems and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
