What you will do:

The Senior Model Maker will work within the Engineering Lab team that is part of the Unitary Products Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. In this division we design, test, manufacture, and assemble heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. Johnson Controls has two plants for UPG with approximately 1000 employees each: one in Norman, OK and the other in Wichita, KS. This position will be in the Norman, OK Engineering Lab and will report to the Engineering Lab Manager.  As a Senior Model Maker working in the Engineering Lab, you will work in a climate-controlled HVAC laboratory environment performing build assignments pertinent to operational improvements and product testing for the UPG product line. 

How you will do it:

Develops working prototypes for industry and agency compliance testing.  Plans and schedules build projects and scopes a build from build books/ engineer instructions.  Reads and interprets test standards and develops SOPs / work instructions.  Follow established safety procedures, conduct audits, and maintain a clean work area.  Acts as a technical leader for prototype build team and can mentor new model makers on technical operations such as brazing, pressure testing, and unit modification.  Other duties as required. 

What we look for:

High school diploma or equivalent combined with vocational technical training in HVAC.  Demonstrated working knowledge and skills in – reading wiring diagrams, modifying unit wiring and controls, instrumentation, and electro-mechanical troubleshooting.  Understanding of the HVAC operations including function of the following: heat exchanger, blower, compressor, condenser, motors, evaporator, BTU, etc.  Ability to lift equipment, compressors, units, motors, sheet metal parts etc.  Proficiency in MS Office applications.  Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and experience with data-based decision making.  Excellent team collaboration and communication skill.  Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in laboratory environment.  Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations – percentages, fractions, average, etc. 

Preferred 

Associate degree or equivalent  Advanced MS Office capabilities (i.e. MS Excel proficiency, VBA programming, etc.)
