Model Store Manager

SUMMARY

Handmade happiness starts with you! We’re looking for a passionate, driven individual to be our JOANN Model Store Manager. This individual is a natural leader and a JOANN brand ambassador, who runs a highly effective store team with exceptional customer service. The “model store” they lead will serve as an example for what customer service and operational excellence should look like for other stores in the district. Also, this Model Store Manager will empower the store team to maintain its exemplary customer service and operational excellence even when the Model Store Manager is off-site.

In addition to being an exceptional store operator, this leader will work side by side with the District Manager and HR Business Partner to coach and train store managers across their district.

First and foremost, this role is responsible for overseeing and executing the day-to-day operations of the “model store” at a high level. Beyond that, Model Store Managers will invest significant time training and onboarding other store managers in the district to maintain operational excellence and alignment to the JOANN mission and vision in a consistent, highly effective way across store locations.

JOB DUTIES

HEARTS

Hire, develop and lead an amazing store team with a passion for the JOANN brand to exceed customer expectations.Communicate in a thorough, proactive way with all field and corporate partners. Partner with the District Manager and HR Business Partner on operational, developmental, and training directives.Learn and apply best practices on how to gain buy-in and trust from trainees.Motivate, coach, and inspire the store team and other store leaders across the district.

HANDS

Run the day-to-day operations of the district’s model store at a high level.Exceed standard ratings on all operational measurements (e.g. sales, profit, store standards, staffing).Ensure exemplary execution of operational policies and procedures.Build strategic plans and provides the necessary tools for the team to achieve KPIs.Leads Buy Online Pick Up in Store (BOPIS), ensuring order completion and company standards maintained.Communicates Planogram (POG) set within the store and ensures accuracy according to company standards.

MINDS

Provide best practices on processes and brand standards for all new and existing store leaders in the district. Train and coach in a way that is consistent across JOANN locations.Spend time mastering new training material and preparing for delivering training to store leaders to be the go-to trainer for the district when new training is needed.Continually stay informed on industry trends and training and development strategies.

INSPIRE

Reach financial results by driving sales and delivering outstanding customer service.Celebrate wins, lead by example, and inspire others to act according to the JOANN mission, vision and values.Mentor and empower the team to enhance the store’s overall performance.Create a model for continuous learning while promoting teamwork and appreciation throughout the team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Stand during an entire shift (other than normal break time).Continuously walk around all areas of the store throughout shift.Read written instructions, reports, and other information on paper and computer screens.Orally communicate with customers and other team members on consistent basis throughout their shift.Input data on computer keyboard and handheld units.Use 2-way radios (hear incoming messages and provide verbal response).Push/pull merchandise with appropriate equipment (carts, bins, etc.) to and from backroom and sales floor.Lift, place, and arrange items on shelves and racks.Bend down and reach above head.Climb and descend ladder.Individually lift up to 49 pounds, and group lift up to 97 pounds (under 2 lbs on a constant basis, 10 lbs on a frequent basis, 10-49 lbs on an occasional basis, and 50-97 lbs group lifts on an infrequent basis).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Full supervision of a multi-unit store including all store personnel and duties including hiring and training. Being a Model Store Manager may include training and coaching new Store Managers within a District at the direction of the District Manager and HR Business Partner.

EXPECTED AVAILABILITY

Available to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. This position may include traveling up to 40% of the time to coach new Store Managers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent

Education Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

Experience Minimum: 5+ years of retail management experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to multi-task different areas of responsibilityAbility to manage a store budget and labor levels.Ability to maintain confidential information in a store.Ability to recruit and train new talent.Possess strong interpersonal skills.Coaching and mentoring skillsHighly effective communicator for both written and verbal communications.Must have the ability to identify and solve complex problems.Demonstrate a “customer first” service focus.In-depth knowledge of retail financials and the ability to manage a P&L line-by-line.Naturally curious and inquisitive nature with a desire to learn and grow.Self-starter who promotes action and maintains sense of urgency to achieve results.Proficient in the use of computers, including MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), POS and Inventory Management Systems.

Range of Pay for Position (Final pay rate is based on experience and qualifications): $55,000.00-$114,000.00

This position is eligible for a quarterly incentive based on store performance and an annual incentive based on store volume and company performance.
