About the Opportunity

 

We are currently recruiting for a Mathematical Modelling Consultant to join our Radioactive Waste Management and Disposal business. This hybrid role will be part of the team based primarily at our Harwell office, though other locations will be considered. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary business (including mathematicians, physicists, chemists, engineers, safety case specialists, geologists, and project managers) who provide consultancy, modelling, safety case and laboratory studies that underpin the science, technology and engineering to allow the safe disposal of radioactive waste.

The successful candidate will provide technical input across a portfolio of projects within the area of Radioactive Waste Management, centred on modelling for geological disposal. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse group of team members, working on interesting modelling projects to meet our evolving customer needs. You will also be supported to develop your skills and experience as well as offered opportunities to build a successful career and lead technical teams.

 

You will support and potentially lead both large and small consultancy projects and proposals, many of which are multi-disciplinary. You will have the opportunity to support client relationships and projects, prepare proposals, liaise with clients, manage projects and subcontractors, provide advice and deliver technical reports in line with client and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities\:

As a Mathematical Modelling Consultant, you will provide technical input and potentially leadership on a range of consultancy projects for customers, including radioactive waste management organisations, radioactive waste producers and regulators, both in the UK and overseas. The responsibilities include\:

Providing input to modelling studies in a range of technical areas; this is likely to include both simple and complex modelling to underpin the safety of a future geological disposal facility. Key modelling areas include\:

o   groundwater flow and solute transport both near surface and deep underground

o   radionuclide release from waste packages and repositories into the atmosphere on performance assessments for underground repositories for radioactive waste

o   gas transfer and migration

o   coupled modelling

o   thermal modelling of radioactive waste under storage, transport or disposal conditions.

Producing, and checking calculations, analyses and technical reports Delivering high-quality and bespoke technical and strategic support to our clients Developing an understanding of the underlying requirements of our customers, and how we can meet those requirements Continuing to build and develop excellent client relationships Supporting other team members  Supporting the continued development of our business, through identifying, bidding for and winning new work, with both new and existing clients *

Able to work in multi-disciplinary teams. Desire to support growth of our radioactive waste management capability. Ability to work in the UK without a company sponsored visa Significant experience working in the nuclear (or other similar) sector
