Mohs/histology Technician

Description

Assisting in surgery - Surgeon will slice very thin tissue sections of frozen skin until they reach an unaffected area. The MOH's tech will assist here and then take the tissue samples to the Lab where they will then prepare the slides. This consists of embedding, cutting tissue if needed, straining, and putting cover slips on slides for analysis by Pathologist.

Responsibilities

Perform complex histological procedures using a variety of techniques such as grossing, staining, drying and freezing to preserve and test the samples.Prepare tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to obtain a patient diagnosis.Accessions and grosses tissue specimens.Process specimens including, but not limited to, embedding, cutting, staining, cover-slipping and filing.Prepare slides of specimens using specified stain to enhance visibility under microscope.Trim tissue specimens into blocks and fix tissue info fixing solution or formalin.Examine/study slides under microscope to detect deviations from norm and report abnormalities which may require further study.Record and analyze data.Prepare media, chemicals, reagents and solutions.Preserve and store samples per established policies and procedures.Maintain, clean, and repair equipment and instruments as per established procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.Establish and monitor quality control programs and perform required quality control, maintenance, and quality assurance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate’s or Bachelor's Degree in science-related field is preferred.At least 6 months of experience processing samples from Moh's surgeries

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
