We are currently seeking a Molecular Biology Intern to be part of a multidisciplinary team developing novel non-viral gene delivery vehicles to enable the advancement of gene therapies for rare diseases. The candidate will support the characterization of a broad range of small molecules, particularly polymerizable monomers with designed molecular structures, using common molecular biology techniques. The successful individual will demonstrate attention to detail, diligent laboratory safety discipline, and high aptitude in execution of test article formulation, cell culture maintenance, flow cytometry analysis, and next generation sequencing.
This role is 100% onsite located in Columbus, OH. A $2k housing stipend is available for students relocating more than 50 miles from home and school for the role.
The intern will be expected to work independently in designing and executing experiments supporting the characterization of nanoparticles designed to deliver genetic therapies to specific cell types grown in culture.
Responsibilities Cell culture media preparation, cell banking and testingCell differentiation, transfection and characterizationAssisting and performing cell-based assay development and operationCell line inventory managementCell flasks and frozen cell vials distributionHigh throughput cell assays including flow cytometryTest article formulation and characterization experimentsKeep detailed laboratory documentation related to process steps, observations, and results.Support periodic status reports summarizing procedures, protocols, and experimental data.Maintain a safe, well-stocked and clean laboratory.Assist with the development of SOPs and continuous process improvement initiatives.Performs other duties as requiredKey Qualifications Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or similar discipline. Hands-on experience in the areas of cell culture, including development of the standard procedures for the growth, maintenance and manipulation of contamination-free primary cells and commonly used research cell lines is required.Excellent aseptic technique is a must.Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to produce detailed experimental procedures.Must be a US CitizenPreferred Qualifications Knowledge of cell line differentiation and characterization Experience with Excel and OutlookExperience culturing Schwann cell linesExperience with Flow Cytometry and laboratory roboticsAn ideal candidate should be flexible, adaptable and able to communicate effectively and professionally in a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment
