Molecular Scientist 1 (Centennial DX)

The tests involve DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and data analysis. The scientist will also have to utilize the LIMS system to process patient data and results. The position will focus on Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and Antibiotic Resistance (ABR), Respiratory Pathogen Panel (RPP), Strep A, and COVID patient qPCR testing. The scientist must be comfortable working with infectious materials and have experience handling biohazardous materials. Proficiency with wet lab activities, computers, robotics, and sample tracking are critical to success.
A Day in the Life
· Extracting DNA/RNA from urine and respiratory samples
· Performing quality control on DNA/RNA samples
· Performing qPCR preparation and instrument runs
· qPCR Data analysis
· Monitoring positive and negative controls as part of quality control measures
· Building sample batches within LIMS and resulting and verifying data
· Maintaining inventory of reagents
· Communicating with supervisor on status of samples/batches
· Instrument maintenance and laboratory cleaning
· Accessioning samples if necessary
· Working with supervisor and accomplishing necessary assigned duties as needed
What Mako Is Looking For
· Graduation from an accredited four year college in a relevant field; biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or natural/physical sciences.
· Experience in clinical diagnostics or molecular biology laboratory wet work is preferred but not required (1 to 2 years)
· Extensive knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of molecular biology, specifically DNA/RNA extraction and qPCR
· Specialized knowledge of and ability to use a full range of standard technical equipment, complex scientific apparatus, and automated techniques of analysis;
· Extensive knowledge of laboratory safety practices and principles;
