Element JMI has a current opening for a Molecular Scientist III to join our growing team in Iowa. This Molecular Scientist III utilizes professional skill and judgment to perform diverse and complex tasks within laboratory to conduct molecular analysis on bacterial and fungal isolates. Either independently or through minimal guidance from the molecular department director, performs data interpretation and complete analysis of results and proficiently operates highly specialized equipment. Expected to operate in both team environments as well as in self-sufficient modes. Helps provide general oversight to ensure the efficient operations of the molecular laboratory. Will be assigned research projects to advance service lines within company.
Responsibilities Performs molecular, microbiology and epidemiology methods and testing with minimalsupervision or per Element Iowa City standard operating protocols and/or procedures.Design experiments in conjunction with Directors/Associate Directors.Serves as the technical expert for interpreting results, specific tasks, processes, and procedures
performed in a laboratory. Supply a reliable source of information and leadership to other
employees.Communicates and disseminates general information and policy or procedure changes to
laboratory personnel.Investigates and resolves problems concerning testing and procedures.Participates in the design, decision processing and implementation of new procedures and
instrumentation.Monitors equipment performance, diagnoses malfunctions and initiates service requests.
Communicate effectively and respectfully with vendors or service providers regarding needs and
issues of the group.Monitors quality control and implements corrective actions for effectiveness.Promotes and participates in continuing education.Ability to write scientific communications and take direction from superiors to produce drafts of
manuscripts and conference presentations.Assists in developing the strategic goals and objectives for the laboratory.Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation training program for the
laboratory.Participates in the preparation, review, revision, and implementation of standard operating
procedures. Make informal presentations of these procedures to others in the laboratory.Provides oversight of laboratory organization, inventory, and supply management.Conducts research and developmental activities.Demonstrates professional development. Skills / Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of experience or a Master's degree or higher educational
degree with 3-5 years of experience in the field. Research background, including primary authorship in
research publications is required.
