**Description:**
The Monitor Technician identifies and documents cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias in the adult and geriatric patient. He/she notifies the proper nursing personnel of any changes in such, in order to provide safe and efficient patient care.
Manages and coordinates use of cardiac monitoring.
- Demonstrates ability to complete and maintain appropriate documentation:
Ectopy book (except ED, ED only documents every 2 hours on ED chart)
- Prints and interprets strip for every patient every eight (8) hours and delivers to each nursing unit for RN sign off. (except ED - ED prints and interprets strip every two (2) hours and charts on the ED record)
- Prints changes in patient’s rhythm/vital signs.
- The Monitor Tech is to be notified when a patient leaves the unit and will will be notified when the patient returns
- Assures adequate supplies are available, monitors paper, heads, tele box.
- Provides a climate conducive to educational experiences for students and new employees.
- Demonstrates ability to use cardiac monitors:
- Central stations.
- Telemetry transmitters.
- Electrical safety (checks lead wires).
- Inserts/changes transmitter batteries.
- Sets, reviews, and edits alarms.
- Troubleshoots poor waveforms and equipment problems.
- Assigns transmitters when necessary.
- Admits/discharges patient data into system.
- Changes printer/recorder paper.
- Notifies charge nurse/supervisor/biomedical of equipment failure/problems.
- Cleans monitors and cables between patients.
