The Monitor Technician performs ongoing surveillance of patients' cardiac monitors and provides appropriate nursing staff with timely notification of changes in cardiac rhythm and/or hemodynamics that could impact patient condition.
A caregiver in this position works Days, from 7:00am—7:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Notify nursing caregivers of changes in cardiac rhythm and/or hemodynamics that could impact the patient’s condition.
Interpret patient’s cardiac rhythm and document in the patient’s electronic medical record.
Answer the telephone and communicate clearly when receiving and delivering information.
Orient and mentor new caregivers and serve as a training and troubleshooting resource for the CMU and nursing units.
Provide reports for the oncoming shift.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities attained through successful completion of a formal training program in allied health or a healthcare field such as nursing, medical assisting, EMT or a similar field OR one year of patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home, or healthcare field.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing skills.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion of EKG/Cardiac Monitoring course.
Experience as a Monitor Technician.
Demonstrated skill in recognizing abnormal cardiac rhythms.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a fast paced environment under moderate pressure, multi-task with accuracy to keep track of a large number of patients and requires long periods of sitting and watching a computer monitors.
Visual acuity for observing cardiac monitor data.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
