RESIDENTIAL UNDERWRITER
Essential Responsibilities:
+ Responsible for the underwriting of residential loan packages. Evaluate and review the loan package and appraisal reports: assuring that the loan package complies with residential underwriting guidelines whether for conforming and non-conforming loan requests. Performs the underwriting analysis in accordance with the specific guidelines appropriate for the loan being underwritten in order to be able to make a decision in the loan. Present the file to the Credit Manager for discussion and/or final approval.
+ The Underwriter must inform the Senior Underwriter and the Credit Manager of any material risk factor, discrepancy or deviation from established policies discovered during the underwriting process.
+ Assist in the preparation of monthly reports which includes, but not limited to: Residential Underwriting log, Monthly exception Report, FNMAE Prefunding Report and the Subprime and Non-traditional Loan Report. These reports need to be completed by the 5th day of every new month.
+ Provide assistance and guidance to the loan processors and loan closers on issues related to the loan underwriting.
+ Assist the Senior Underwriter and Credit Manager with items related to changes in existing loan policy and/or procedures for both conforming and non-conforming loans. Obtain training on these changes or any other development related to the review and underwriting of confirming and non-conforming loans, receiving training as necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
A Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar job is required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job is required.
Independence of Judgment:
Independence of judgment is according to established internal policies and guidelines. Must be able to arrive at loan conclusions for conforming and non-conforming loans independently and have ability to explain his rationale on all loans underwritten.
Impact of Errors:
The impact of errors on this position could affect other departments operations and an economic impact to customers and to the Bank, and:
+ Disorganization of the department
+ Complaints from clients/investors
+ Improper classification of assets
+ Incorrect data presentation due to erroneous numbers
+ FNMAE repurchases
+ Non-insured FHA mortgages
Interpersonal Communication:
Good interaction with customers and bank employees.
Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:

+ Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and proficient at typing.
+ The position required a thorough understanding of the Bank's financial products, loan documentation and the objectives of the residential lending department.
+ Understanding of how to interpret financial information and loan documentation.
+ This position requires sitting most of the time, using of hands, fingers, handle or fee, talk and hearing.
+ Sometimes it is also required to stand and walk.
+ Attention to detail.
+ Specific vision abilities close and distance vision.
+ May require lifting and moving boxes or packages not exceeding 10 pounds weight.
+ Good communication skills.
+ Minimum of two years of college, associate degree in business or finance or the equivalent work experience.
+ FHA designation
Work Environment:
Employees in this job work in an office environment with a comfortable room temperature, good lighting, and quiet conditions. These employees are exposed to external elements when representing the corporation at external events and may be required to work extended hours, including holidays, should these coincide with company events.
