Motor Technician

Description
Our Evansville production team is looking for a skilled, experienced Motor Technician to join the operations team!
Primary Responsibilities:
• Preparation
o Read work scopes to determine job status, work authorizations/limitations, description of problems, and/or expected serviceability.
• Disassembly
o Disassemble complex and non-routine electromechanical equipment noting parts identification, configuration, condition, problems, and failures.
o Properly mark parts, take photos, and thoroughly complete paperwork to ensure accurate job completion that meet company and ISO standards.
• Assembly
o Assemble complex and non-routine motors and equipment including ball, roller, and sleeve bearings.
o Pre-test electrical, mechanical, and ensure proper lubrication is used per customer/job requirements.
• Testing
o Perform tests of electromechanical equipment and document accordingly. Troubleshoot known or suspected problems.
o Operate Megger, AC/DC Hypot, Surge Tester, Volt-Ohm Meter, Feeler Gauges, Polarization Index, and electrical testing up to 12,000 VDC as needed on jobs.
o Test all voltage motors.
o Read, interpret, comprehend, and draw wiring diagrams.
• Clean & Inspect
o Clean complex electromechanical equipment assemblies as needed using various methods and steps including but not limited to parts washers/steamers, caustic tanks, and glass beaders.
o Thoroughly inspect parts for wear and damage and record any worn or damaged parts.
• Parts Flow Process
o Measure for and note proper replacement parts.
o Request needed items as approved by foreman.
o Store parts accurately according to job status or work scope after the dismantling process. Ensure ISO standards are met for storage.
• Repairs
o Repair or replace complex defective mechanical or electromechanical parts including but not limited to bearings, brushes, brush holders, motor leads, gears, seals, impellers, mechanical switches, clutches, clutch rotors, couplers, overspeeds, brake assemblies and drums, tachs, fans, and end shields.
o Lift, tighten, adjust, and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work duties.
• Paperwork
o Maintain thorough paperwork throughout entire repair process including all test sheets from receiving unit description to Quality Control Checklist. Record accurately and on a timely basis.
• Test Run
o Connect leads and test run on proper voltage.
o Operate Amp Meters, Temp Chard Recorder and IRD/CSI vibration meter.
o Retest reassembled electromechanical equipment at proper voltage, operation and rotations.
o Observe safety rules for all voltage Test Panel.
o Be aware of any abnormalities in test run (rubbing, noise, end play, brush noise, and commutation, etc.).
• Other
o Train Motor Tech I & II's in both AC and DC repair.
o Provide guidance to level I & II's when needed.
o Perform and promote ISO standards and requirements.
Requirements
Requirements:
• Education:
o High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience:
o At least five (5) years of AC and DC motor repair experience.
• Other:
o Ability to read blueprints and drawings
o Ability to ready, comprehend, and draw wiring diagrams
o Ability to perform basic math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division including understanding fractions and percentages
o Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple written and verbal instructions
o Ability to understand, perform, and retain various job related training, operational, and safety procedures
o Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making related to routine duties within set company standards
o Ability to operate overhead cranes, fork lift trucks, and other equipment
o Ability to operate various hand tools
o Although seldom, ability to work in confined spaces
