**Summary:** As a mechanical engineering intern on the Metaverse Product Design Engineering team, you will help design solutions for next generation consumer mixed reality products. You will explore and refine a range of designs through iterative prototyping and collaboration, developing a deep understanding of the product design process, manufacturing, and validation. We are looking for an inquisitive learner with strong communication skills who will apply mechanical engineering principles to problem solve in creative, insightful ways. Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long. **Required Skills:** MR Product Design Intern (BS/MS) Responsibilities: 1. Brainstorming innovative ideas and defining requirements balancing performance, function, and aesthetics. 2. Collaborate with industrial designers and user interface teams to create concepts that are both ergonomic and visually appealing. 3. Design mechanical modules and systems including but not limited to enclosures, thermal solutions, dynamic components, etc. 4. Detail 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software. 5. Perform engineering analysis of design functionality including but not limited to free body diagrams, weight analysis, and tolerance analysis, and statistical analysis. 6. Identify and resolve design issues by troubleshooting and iterating on design. 7. Validate design intent and functional requirements through data driven testing and analysis. 8. Validate design via thermal, mechanical, and environmental testing. 9. Collaborate with electrical engineers, optical engineers, manufacturing engineers, reliability engineers, industrial engineers, and more to integrate hardware systems. 10. Partner with suppliers to ensure design is manufacturable at scale. **Minimum Qualifications:** Minimum Qualifications: 11. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelors or Masters in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, aero/astro engineering, product design engineering, or related field. 12. Experience using 3D CAD software such as solidworks, Creo, NX, CATIA. 13. Proficiency in testing & evaluating mechanical designs 14. Knowledge of various rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, CNC, laser cutting) 15. Familiarity with mass production manufacturing methods such as injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, and CNC. 16. Fundamental knowledge of material properties for plastics and metals. . 17.
