MRI Technologist - General MRI - Evening/Night

Position Function: Under the direction of a radiologist, performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams for subsequent evaluation by attending physician. Assists physician as requested in the selection of practical applications and technical factors.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Performs required weekly quality control on 1.5T LX scanner and documents all data in QC log [online desktop].
2. Demonstrates involvement in department by attending 50% of staff/committee meetings.
3. Collaborates with staff members, management team, and interdepartmental staff to identify and initiate appropriate interventions to deal with problems, needs, and issues.
4. Maintains a professional image that reflects the employee's role in health care, with confidence and a positive impression.
5. Assists in orientation of new personnel or trainees to the department by being friendly, encouraging, and serving as a "buddy" to new technologist.
6. Assists and maintains a neat, clean and safe environment for patients and other staff members cleans spills immediately.
7. Assists in maintaining equipment assigned to patient care and reports malfunctioning of equipment to appropriate personnel.
8. Verifies correct procedure by checking physician orders on chart and/or requisition; verifies correct patient by following department patient identification policy. Contacts physician with any discrepancy. Promptly verifies order changes with registration (pre-certification).
9. Accurately review patient's chart for physician's order by signing all orders.
10. Obtains relevant and accurate patient history/MR screening form using standardized form prior to exam; routinely screens female patients of child-bearing age [10-60 years of age per department policy]; assure history form is signed by all patients; thoroughly explains procedures and equipment to patient; obtains written consent if needed.
11. Inspires confidence from Radiologists by performing and communicating in a highly professional manner at all times.
12. Demonstrates ability to communicate pertinent information and accurate report to all primary care personnel to ensure continuity of patient care.
13. Consistently takes ownership of customer problems and follows through to close the loop with the customer.
14. Recognizes and responds to priorities in the patient care. Readily adapts to changes in workload and responds efficiently.
15. Consistently documents interventions in the Electronic Health Record and Synapse as evidenced by monthly reports.
16. Demonstrates safe contrast / medication administration practice, verifies labs before exam, and reports issues to the Radiologist before contrast administration.
17. Familiar with duties and performs them independently, accurately, efficiently, promptly, recognizing their importance and relationship to patient care/imaging for all age/population groups.
18. Utilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self and others. Safely positions, transfers and transports patients.
19. Observes changes in patient condition & promptly reports to primary care personnel, or Rapid Response Team.
20. Responds appropriately to emergencies, universal protocol, pt ID 100%, infection control, room cleaning, and isolation precautions.
21. Effective problem solving skills related to patient status.
22. Assumes responsibility and accountability for assisting and completion of patient care and accurate documentation throughout the imaging.
23. Responsible for activation of downtime forms during planned and unplanned Electronic Health Record and/or Synapse downtime periods.
24. Prioritizes and coordinates workload so that tasks are completed in an efficient manner, keeps team members updated on changes in workflow or patient care, documents critical information in writing to co-workers.
25. Maintains appropriate quantity of supplies for the next shift, ensure security of injectables and supplies at all times.
26. Completes work left from own shift.
27. Performs required daily scanner, advantage workstations, and computer shutdown,
28. Recommends additions and changes to update the MRI department, submits to Imaging Supervisor or Director of Radiology.
29. Maintains current knowledge through reading journals, attending meetings/in-services or CEU's to maintain certification.
30. Meets deadlines in special projects and daily responsibilities, demonstrates a "need no reminders" attitude.

Qualifications and Standards


Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved school of radiologic technology.

Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. One year current work experience or equivalent time as an MRI technologist devoted full-time to a high field MRI scanner. Depending on the hospital's need at the time the vacancy is to be filled, the department will consider on the job training of a Radiologic Technologist. Trainees are required to satisfactorily complete a cross-sectional anatomy evaluation as part of the bidding / job award process. Experience in cross-sectional anatomy and modality is desirable, but not required. Cross training may be provided as appropriate.

Certifications/Licensure: Registered in active status by the American Registry of Technologists (ARRT). Advanced certification for MRI registry is required 24 months following completion of mandatory exam repetitions. Current CPR/AED certification required.
