MRI Technologist I - CMC - (Casual) - Memorial **Galveston, Texas, United States** **New** Allied Health UTMB Health Requisition # 2302290 The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). **_JOB SUMMARY_** **:** Works independently to complete a variety of routine MR procedures to include common and specialty MR exams of moderate complexity. Provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special MR procedures. Delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to MR exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. This position is a member of the direct patient care team. **_ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS_** **:** + Promotes a positive work environment. + Collaborates with all members of the patient care team. + Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards department goals for retention and employee engagement. + Utilizes verbal, nonverbal & written communication to achieve mutual understanding. + Proactive in responding to patient needs. + Performs routine MRI, MRA procedures. + Optimizes protocols to provide better patient care, image quality and patient experience. This includes positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. + Assists physicians during diagnostic or special procedures, including assisting with sterile technique. + Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANGAGE UP techniques, when speaking to patients and family members at an age-appropriate level. + Follows all MR safety policy and procedures accordingly. + Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures. + Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices, and policies. + Participates in WASTE walks and supports department LEAN projects. + Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends. + Performs weekly imaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imaging equipment is in safe working order prior to use. + Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e. medications) or potential outcomes and obtains assistance, as appropriate. + Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered. + Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. + Ensures their personal timecard is accurate and approves it in a timely manner to prevent retro amendments. + Participates in department projects or shared governance activities. + Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a technologist. + Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for the department. + Performs other related duties as required. **_KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES_** **:** + Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations. + Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially regarding activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. + Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles. + Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems to include, Hospital / Radiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents. + Exhibits strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. + Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision including organizing workflow and actively participating in problem-solving. **_WORK ENVIRONMENT_** **:** + Work attire is scrubs. + Equipment you will be using: MR units of various venders; contrast injectors; Electronic Health Record; PACS. + May be asked to travel to other UTMB/CMC locations. + Required to participate in call, weekend, holiday and disaster team rotations to include emergencies and severe weather. + May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients or others. + Must be able to push or pull a minimum of 50 lbs. + Must be able to walk long distances. + Must be able to stand for a continuous 60 minutes at a time. + Must be able to sit for a continuous 60 minutes at a time. May be required to work within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center.
